  1. +1 to Martincath's advice. Getting to Butchart's from Vancouver for a day is time consuming and/or expensive. Much better to add extra time to your trip and spend a night in Victoria.
  2. Okay try that and then come back and let us know how it worked! FYI - it doesn't.
  3. Sorry but $300 or under for a hotel room in Vancouver during cruise season is almost impossible to find. The YWCA is your best bet, but don't wait too long to book a room somewhere.
  4. Quite frankly I would save some money and just get off the ship and start walking by yourselves! Head towards Fisherman's Wharf and get fish & chips at Barbs https://www.tourismvictoria.com/see-do/activities-attractions/attractions/fishermans-wharf https://www.barbsfishandchips.com/ Then start checking out the plethora of craft beer pubs downtown. https://bcaletrail.ca/ale-trails/victoria-ale-trail/ Either walk back to the ship or catch a cab
  5. I would put your luggage in storage at the port, then wander downtown, along the seawall in Stanley Park. Have dinner and then pick up your luggage (although you might have to pick it up early depending on when they close) and head to the airport hotel.
  6. the majority of psychotherapists would be unemployed if people were actually good at dealing with that sort of thing;-) LOL - so true!
  7. Well Martincath - both my mother's and aunt's walkers had seats that didn't have to be flipped down; most walkers that I have seen the seats are already flipped down. I worked in long term care, so have experienced a huge array of walkers. Now as far as impatient people behind you, my feeling that's their problem not the person with the walker.
  8. "slowly/stopping to turn a walker into a seat and back" Most walkers have seats already on them, no need to turn it into something, just sit down.
  9. Well this might be an out of the box suggestion, but here goes! Think about renting a walker with a seat, they get gate checked for the plane and then you'll have a nicer seat to sit on while waiting to board the ship. Plus the appearance of a walker might get you fast tracked.
  10. Just get a passport, then you don't have to worry or wonder.
  11. You might get better responses if you post on the Canada (Alaska, Pacific Coastal) forum. However to give you a few thoughts: - walk into town and check out the many craft breweries - take a horse drawn carriage ride - walk into town and just enjoy the ambience around the Inner Harbour All depends on what time of year (e.g. in June, July sunset won't be until 10:00ish) and how many hours you have in port.
  12. Unfortunately its not the stupidest question I've seen asked and they were serious!!!
  13. Unfortunately any hotel in downtown Vancouver during cruise season is probably going to elicit an "ouch" from you when you see the prices.
  14. Even renting a car, your day is going to be 10-12 hours. Drive from downtown Vancouver to Tswassen ferry terminal - 45 minutes You must be at the terminal 30-60 minutes prior your reserved sailing Ferry crossing - 1.5 hours Drive from Swartz Bay terminal to Butchart Gardens - 30 minutes Time at Butcharts - 2/3 hours Drive back to Swartz Bay - 30 minutes Waiting for ferry 30-60 minutes Ferry crossing - 1.5 hours Drive to downtown Vancouver - 45 minutes Total hours = roughly 10 hours If you really want to see Butcharts and don't want to spend a day doing it; your only option is to fly - which you don't want to do. There are beautiful gardens in Vancouver, just stay there.
  15. Well with that shore time, you really don't have time to visit both unless you take a ship's tour. Butchart's doesn't open until 9:00 and Butterfly Gardens until 10:00. Its a 45 minute drive from the port and you have to be back onboard by 11:30, so its going to be a very rushed tour. You could use this tour company, but again its going to be very rushed. https://cvstours.com/
  16. This is not going to happen - way too many ships, and people, in at the same time. Its no wonder some Victorians are starting to dislike the cruise industry. Obviously just a preliminary schedule for 2024.
  17. Just to let you know that the Rocky Mountaineer only spends about 90 minutes of the trip actually in the Rockies. If you really want to see the Rockies, a much better option would be to fly from Vancouver to Calgary, rent a car and drive to Banff/Jasper.
  18. This is news to me! I know that both Vancouver and Victoria are working with the cruise lines to try and limit the ships running during a port stop to help curb emissions.
  19. Found this on Google. For you I suspect a taxi would be your best option, they have a set price from the airport to downtown and I think its in the $35-$45 CDN range. https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Vancouver-Airport-YVR/The-Westin-Bayshore?source=adwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgpSL54HP_AIVnhitBh3KBwfmEAAYAiAAEgIECPD_BwE
  20. A day trip to Victoria to see Butchart Gardens will be 12-14 hours, unless you take a seaplane from Harbour Air. https://harbourair.com/flights/ Victoria is not a "must do" especially if you only have two days to work with.
  21. If you decide to get a rental car, I would not do street parking but pay for parking at the hotel you're staying at; although some of the smaller downtown hotels include free parking. Don't bother picking up the car until you're in Victoria, you can still drop off at the airport without paying a huge one way drop fee.
  22. Yup Ferry_Watcher has it right - just walk off the ship and either turn left to go into town or right for a walk along the waterfront. A couple of other options: https://victoriaharbourferry.com/ https://www.victoriacarriage.com/
  23. Yes it is a violation so won't be allowed. Look at getting off one ship in Vancouver and then getting on another one northbound. Not ideal but ...
