  1. I keep my phone on airplane mode when I'm in the US and guess what, I can still receive emails and texts.
  2. Have done two Scenic cruises and highly recommend them! Friends have done four and one more booked for September. In my opinion, you can't go wrong booking with Scenic.
  3. I would not be paying any attention to current Covid requirements for a cruise next year! Just book whatever cruise works best for your group and worry about any requirements a couple of months prior the cruise.
  4. Yes you can use credit/debit cards in Europe. While you can tip in US$, the workers on the cruise ship are sailing in Europe and would probably prefer receiving tips in Euros so they don't have to spend their off hours going to a bank to exchange. When you cruise elsewhere how much cash do you take? The same applies to Europe. FYI - depending on your itinerary, some countries might not use Euros but have their own currency; they will still take credit cards.
  5. That might be tough; just because the ship docks at 5:00 doesn't mean anyone is getting off immediately! Best bet is to be at the front of the line to get off and then run to the nearest taxi (there will be lots at the port). I highly doubt you'll make it be 5:30, good luck!
  6. You are arriving into Canada in Montreal where you will go through Canadian Immigration/Customs; therefore Montreal is your arrival airport.
  7. If you're flying into Canada - you have to do ArriveCan. If you're arriving via cruise ship - you have to do ArriveCan. If you're flying in and then getting on a cruise ship - you have to do ArriveCan, perhaps twice.
  8. How long is your stop in Victoria? Our answers will be based on that. In the meantime https://victoriaharbourferry.com/ https://bcaletrail.ca/ale-trails/victoria-ale-trail/
  9. Saw a pool of about 20 dolphins that swam along beside us for awhile and then in our wake, it was magical. The Captain had announced that we could see them on the port side, naturally most people went to the starboard side and then complained they couldn't see them! Also saw an Orca off the coast of Victoria BC early in the morning.
  10. https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/services/arrivecan.html Put in place by the Federal Government last year so you wouldn't have done it on previous cruises.
  11. Well Butchart Gardens might not be open the evening you are there. Like everywhere else worldwide, they are having staffing problems and have not been able to reopen with full hours. So before hopping in a taxi, I would double check on their website if they are actually open the night you are in town. https://www.butchartgardens.com/hours/ To answer your question, taxi's do not hang around out there waiting to be hired. You'd either have to make arrangements with the taxi that drops you off to come back for you or call for one when you're ready.
  12. The Port is in the middle of the city, anywhere you want to go trail riding is going to be at least an hour away. Trail riding is not the first thing that pops to mind to do in Victoria so suspect you aren't going to get any response from someone who has done one.
  13. Sorry Hazel but nothing you say is going to convince me to get back on a cruise ship. But I hope everyone who goes on one enjoys themselves.
  14. Have you tried phoning the places directly? https://www.alpinestable.com/trail-rides/ https://victoriahorsestables.com/
  15. I cruised in the mid 80's to mid 90's and thoroughly enjoyed it; including traditional dining. However once the ships became basically amusement parks on water with over 2000 passengers onboard, it was no longer enjoyable for those of us who wanted to sit and watch the ocean go by. Now with the number of passengers onboard I can't begin to imagine what its like and have no desire to find out. I have taken a couple of European river cruises and enjoyed them, but my long distance travel days are over.
  16. Its not Canadians who are doing most of the complaining about ArriveCan, its our friends from the south.
  17. Thank you Swaldos for being a respectful traveller!
  18. Vancouver Island is a a two week destination on its own, so with only 2.5 days in Vancouver - no!
  19. So why not just book the Pan Pacific?
  20. Directly from the Government of Canada website, so one submission = one QR code. Families As the primary traveller, you may provide travel information for yourself and for: your spouse or common law partner your children (or children for whom you have legal guardianship), aged 18 years or younger any other adult for whom you're a legal guardian You can provide information for up to 8 travellers, including yourself, in a single submission."
  21. What time is your ship departing? That makes a difference in what to suggest to you - whether you'll be rushing or have some time. Martincath has given excellent advice.
  22. The one QR code should cover both of you, especially if he is showing up on the website.
  23. You can go in right now at home and fill in the preliminary information (name, passport number, etc.) then within 72 hours of entering Canada fill the rest in. If you are boarding a cruise ship, it must be filled in prior to boarding. There's free Wifi everywhere.
  24. The bus is "scheduled" to get you back to the pier at 1:45 but anyone who has been on a tour knows there is always that group that keeps everyone waiting. You're going to miss your second tour whether the bus drops you downtown or not; you simply can't do both of these. You could easily do Butchart Gardens on your own and be back downtown in time for the second tour.
