  1. Thanks for your updates! My stepson is one of the entertainment staff (he plays drums/percussion) on the Royal Princess for the next four months. We're booked on her Dec. 20th sailing and I can't wait to check the ship out myself. This is a great way to tide me over until then....

    Bon voyage!

If you're still looking at this thread 'Dr Vegas'... please let your stepson know that the live showband (7 musicians including one drummer - him I assume!) was fantastic and very much appreciated. I was in the Princess Theatre every night for whatever entertainment was offered and the band musicians did a great job with each new entertainer. Give him a big thank you from me!

  2. Here is a cruise critic secret that will make reading these forums, and Princess posts, more enjoyable.

You can control how many posts you see per page. I only get a 2nd page when a topic reaches 200 replies. It takes 400+ post to start a 3rd page. This saves time, especially in super long topics, by not having to flip through pages every 20th post.

    1) Go to your User CP (user control panel) located at the upper left of this screen. Next, click on Edit Options. Scroll down to find the section where you can increase the posts shown per page. You can choose from 10 to 200.

    2) You can turn off seeing everyone's custom signature below each post as well. Just unclick the box that says 'show signatures'. Same directions as above.

Adjusting these two features make for a much more efficient browsing experience on the Cruise Critic forums.

    Work smarter, not harder:D

    Fantastic tips, thank you!

  3. Hello,

I'll be in Rome a few days ahead of a cruise this October and will then take the train to Civatavecchia. I've read here that when you get off the port shuttle bus there is a booth of some sort selling tickets for the local bus if you are heading TO the train station... I'll be going the opposite direction, so am wondering how/where would I buy a local bus ticket to go back to the port entrance (where I'll transfer to the port shuttle bus)? Is there a booth at the train station? I'll have luggage so prefer the local bus to the port entrance rather than walking. Or can I pay a cash fare when I get on the bus?

    Thanks!

  4. If anyone is interested, here is the link to the 'What's on' page for Hampton Court Palace. http://www.hrp.org.uk/HamptonCourtPalace/WhatsOn/hampton-court-palace-flower-show

(I'll be in London the first week of July and was considering timing my palace visit to include the flower show. As a result of looking for this link I've realized the first 2 days of the show are for members only... so thanks for unintentionally helping me discover this!)

  5. Hi Danish Viking,

I have read your 2014 and 2015 threads over many months and know this answer is somewhere in there - but I'll be honest I just don't have the energy to go back through all the posts. :o

I made notes of many things you mentioned but not this topic... So I apologize up front and hope you don't mind answering this again!

I recall you mentioning that canal tours are offered by 2 different companies. I think the route/quality of the tours are similar, but the costs were quite different and of course the start locations were in different areas of Nyhavn. Would you mind to tell me the name of the 2 companies and an indication of the price and location of their starting points please?

    Thanks so much!

  6. Tickets purchased from ticket machines and on board are valid from the moment of purchase. The expiry time is printed on the ticket.

You can transfer from one vehicle to another within the validity of your ticket. You must get on a bus, tram or train before the expiry time of your ticket, but you can complete your journey even after your ticket has expired.

Helsinki internal single tickets are valid for 60 minutes. On some bus routes such as eastern Metro feeder services and northeastern feeder services, single tickets purchased from drivers are valid for 20 minutes longer.

    https://www.hsl.fi/en/tickets-and-fares/single-ticket

Thanks so much, exactly the info I was hoping for!:)

  7. I apologize if this question has already been answered...is the tram/bus ticket valid for a period of time (ie 1 or 2 hours from the purchase time), or just valid for the specific trip? For example, can I buy a tram ticket and travel, get off and sight see, then get back on using the same ticket within a specific time period?

    Thanks!

  8. Hello, we will be in Talinn on a weekday, from 7:00am to 2:00pm. I'm aware that most stores in Sweden don't open until 10:00 and wondered if there was a similar general opening time in Talinn? We plan to wonder on our own poking into whatever looks interesting etc, but it would be useful to know ahead of time how long I can sleep in that day!

    Thanks in advance...

  9. Yes the ticket is valid for the bus, its valid 2 hours efter purchase on all public transportation.

Yes the ticket is valid down to København H (central station)

From Østerport it goes like this.

    Østerport

    Nørreport

Vesterport (but only the S-train stops here)

    København H

Thanks so much for the quick response, we're lucky to have access to your vast local knowledge!

  10. Hi Danish Viking,

A little while ago you provided excellent information on how to get from Osterport station to Fredericksborg Slot. I have 3 questions:

Will I need a separate ticket for the bus in Hillerod – and if so can I buy it on the bus – or does my train ticket include bus travel within the destination travel zone?

When I come back to Osterport can I stay on the train to any station up to Kopenhaven Central station as I think that is still zone 1?

I’m struggling to follow the train tracks in the map – would you be so kind to tell me which stations are between Osterport and Kopenhaven Central station?

    Thank you!

  11. Hello,

I've posted a similar question in the Carribbean May 23rd roll call in the hope that someone will be able to obtain this information before mid-June! I'll be on the Royal, in Copenhagen June 16 from noon to 11:00pm...

The question: Does Princess offer a shuttle service this year from the Oceankaj terminal area either into the downtown – and if so where is the drop off point - or to the Osterport station? What is the cost? How late does the shuttle run in the evening? (Bus #26 stops at 4:00pm according to ‘Danish viking’)

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

  12. The Horizon Court is the main buffet. It's huge with lots of options and is open from early morning until late at night.

The Horizon Bistro is a smaller area that has fewer options for breakfast; an additional salad bar, sandwich station with made-to-order sandwiches, desserts and pastries at lunch and desserts and pastries at dinner. There is a lot of additional seating in the Bistro area if you've gotten food in the Horizon Court.

Thanks for the information - I'm adding it to my 'cheat sheet' of stuff about this ship!

  13. OP - I was on the Royal last year and, yes, Princess had a shuttle for (if I remember correctly) 10 euros (could have been dollars). It dropped us off at a very convenient location and picked us up there later.

That would be ideal if it still existed. Bus #26 appears to stop at 4:00pm, and as we don't depart until 11:00 it would be helpful if a shuttle existed for even a few hours past 4:00.

    Thank you!

  14. I'm starting to suspect that the cabin I've selected is right above a designated smoking area...? We'll be on Emerald deck, cabin E701 - aft starboard, just above an outside deck area. We're non-smokers, and while not at all fanatical about smoke, by the same token I'd prefer to not be overwhelmed by it either when on the balcony.

Can anyone confirm if we are above the smoking area? If so, has anyone had a cabin in this immediate area that can provide feedback on the smoke situation? I realize it would all depend on how many smokers are on the cruise etc, but would appreciate any available feedback!

Also, where is smoking location information located on the Princess site?

    Thanks!
