NFL Games on Cruise

Soooooooo....... I just read they didn't have the World Cup Games at all on the ships was that a rumor or something? I know the USA wasn't in it but that's like not having NASCAR or not having the Olympics basically. Sorry if I'm not being smart here but do they pick and choose what they show or are they limited to whatever show up on their satellite or cable package? From what I read here it seems like a little of both but maybe I'm just not getting it. If they really want to show something they will show it, correct? Seems like the NFL would be a no brainer to show.

Thanks everyone for the discussion, I know this sound like a silly thing to worry about on a cruise but my boys and hubby just really like the betting on the NFL. They work hard, do well in school and don't have any other "vices" really so if that's their thing and they do it together, I don't see the difference between them doing that or playing golf. Boys will be boys hahahahaha

The ships can get whatever channels they want to pay for. Rates for network programming continues to spiral up and they switched to a package from Turner for shipwide access. They can get NFL, but have to pay for it, and there is no return on investment if they show in the cabins.

We will be taking our first cruise in a couple years this fall and another around X-mas. We are truly blessed.

Is it true that they no longer show sports on the ships? When did this happen if so? My husband and sons love to bet on football and I'm worried they may not come if they have to miss 2-3 football Sundays, Mondays and Thurdays. Thanks in advance, I've already learned so much from this site. Wish I'd known about it years ago!

Not in your cabins, but will be on in the sports bar, and at the casino bar!

During Football season RCCL shows ESPN international in the cabins. ESPN International shows multiple Sunday, Monday and Thursday NFL games.

Well, nothing like CBS or Fox for the 2018 season. Royal had a Fox station listed on my last Royal cruise, but it never received anything. Princess might still have in cabin ESPN.

It looks like ESPN only has Monday night games.

In any event, with halfway decent Internet, I can watch all NFL games on the device of my choice in my cabin, hotel room, etc. YMMV.

ESPN International has totally different programming from ESPN USA. And on Royal your stateroom TV will have multiple NFL games.

Curious did you watch any full length noon games or just flip channels and see a game was on? Reason I ask is the NFL agreement with ESPN international is only for Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Playoffs, Preseason, and the Red Zone channel..which could be mistaken for multiple games since they move from game to game and just show the teams that are about to score.

Why be judgmental? We go to vegas regularly, thank you very little. Why are people so combative about cruising? It's a freaking vacation
I don't think it's because the topic is cruising. It's just the way some folks are and the nameless, faceless nature of internet forums gives them courage. This is why CC was kind enough to allow us an "ignore list" feature.:)

If you say so. I'm not going to book on Royal just to see what football games they have. Seems like a waste of a cruise.

I wouldn’t worry about riclop. He/she/they aren’t a real poster. They just come on here every night around 8:30pm and post a one line comment on as many threads as possible.

Yes, they did. Roll Tide. I'm not upset, but some people seem to be over missing a game. I was just pointing out that if TV channels are that important, to find out if, and how, you might see them on the cruise line of your choice.

I believe Carnival was the last mass market cruise line to switch TV packages which resulted in loss of major network channels. I don't believe you will find them on Royal, for example.

I believe you will find them on Royal Caribbean......at least the ships that have Playmakers sports bars included on them.

I just got off the Pride yesterday and they indeed, did NOT have the World Cup semifinals on. (for some reason, they had FS-1 on Sky Box and casino TVs, but nor Fox). But they did have ESPN on. Got to watch NBS summer league while playing 3-card poker. Whoopie.

I am like the men in your family, find wagering on football, and being able to watch them while on a cruise is enjoyable. It was awesome watching Denver vs Indy on the deck 8 waterfront at the 5'oclock somewhere bar on the Norwegian Escape.

Interesting, I do see many posts by riclop but until I took a brief moment to view his/her history I didn't realize how short the comments were. I took a quick look at the last 100 posts by riclop and none were more than one sentence.
