Amtrack Springfield Posted December 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2014 I believe e-cig's are not allowed to be smoked in your state room. You need to check the Princess website.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted December 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) I believe e-cig's are not allowed to be smoked in your state room. You need to check the Princess website. PV's were only banned from balconies recently. OK in cabin. Edited December 12, 2014 by Kinkacruiser

From Princess website: Electronic Cigarettes The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within the confines of the guest's stateroom (balcony not included) and within designated smoking areas only. crystalspin Posted December 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2014 Do e-cigs set off the cabin smoke detector? Vapor vs. smoke. They do not set off smoke detectors if used in the conventional way. Do not know what would happen if you BLEW the vapor at a detector! Try at home not on the ship! Since they have no lingering odor or deposits, "leave no trace" as it were -- it would be pretty much impossible to ban eCigs in staterooms, which the lines have apparently figured out. qsuzi Posted December 12, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted December 12, 2014 My apologies - I created a newer thread to have a better chance to get responses from those who use e-cigs in Princess cabins.
flamomo Posted December 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2014 There no smoke with e-cigs, just water vapor, so they will not set off a smoke detector. Also there is no lingering odor to smell up the carpeting, drapes, and furniture. So the answer is, yes, you can use yours in your cabin with being concerned about the smoke detector. I have been using mine in my cabins for several years. JMO, but I think it is unfortunate that Princess changed the rules re" e-cigs, and now requires that except for use in ones cabin, their use be limited to IN the approved smoking areas, since the purpose for which many e-cig users utilize e-cigs is to NOT smoke "real" cigarettes and to avoid the delterious effects of the chemicals in cigarette smoke. So now we have to sit in the smoking area to use our e-cigs (which produce no smoke), and breathe in other people's cigarette and stinky cigar smoke!! As I said .... sugcarol Posted December 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2014 My niece is a flight attendant and people vape in the airplane bathrooms all the time, nobody gets in trouble. She thinks it's ridiculous that people get ballistic if they see someone using one, and she doesn't smoke.

crystalspin Posted December 13, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2014 I believe e-cig's are not allowed to be smoked in your state room. You need to check the Princess website. The full Princess policy as of 12/12/14: Keeping the comfort of our guests a priority, and in consideration of consumer studies which show smokers are a small minority of guests, Princess has implemented the following smoking policy:Designated Smoking Areas Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available onboard and include a sufficient number of ashtrays that are emptied regularly. Generally, these areas include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub and casino, as well as a portion of the open decks. As a safety precaution, guests are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco, which are never to be thrown overboard as this may be sucked back into the ship and cause fires. Stateroom Smoking Policy Update For all voyages departing after January 15th, 2012, Princess Cruises will prohibit smoking in guest staterooms and balconies. This policy change reflects the preferences of a vast majority of our guests who value having their primary living space (both stateroom and balcony) smoke-free. As balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke. Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the guest’s stateroom account. Keeping with the global trend toward more restrictive smoking policies and honoring the wishes of our guests, we feel this change will enhance our onboard experience and do more to help our guests escape completely. Electronic Cigarettes The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within the confines of the guest's stateroom (balcony not included) and within designated smoking areas only. A secondary note: I read that the reasoning behind restricting e-cigs to areas either not visible to anyone else (your stateroom) OR those that are smoking-allowed -- is that e-cigs look too much like regular cigarettes and people might think that the no-smoking rules weren't being enforced. So if you were to need a hit of nicotine to maintain a calm perspective and enjoy your balcony, using a black-colored e-cig and hiding the blue glow thereof in a napkin/towel/blanket/your shirt sleeve would go undetected. Just saying. (-- a non-smoker)

OCruisers Posted December 14, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2014 E-cigs are vapor not smoke so no problem with them setting off the smoke alarm any more than taking a hot shower would. :D LuLu
mina Posted December 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Yes, an ecig can set off the stateroom fire detector. Dh was sitting on bed vaping directly under the smoke detector and we got a call from the bridge indicating the smoke alarm was going off. We explained it was an ecig and no problem. Just don't sit directly under it and you will be fine. The vapor dissipates fast so unless directly under, it won't go off.
