In2why Posted February 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2015 There really isn't a real non smoking area in the casino. If anything it is more smoky, since it is one of the few places to smoke.
Rebels82 Posted February 7, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted February 7, 2015 Don't the smokers have to be playing to be allowed to smoke? Does anyone monitor the smokers who are not playing?
YubaSutter Posted February 7, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2015 Don't the smokers have to be playing to be allowed to smoke?Does anyone monitor the smokers who are not playing? I've seen a lot of smokers at penny slots. Instead of playing 30-50 credits a pull, they will play 1 penny at a time until they are done smoking. cccer Posted February 7, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2015 Don't the smokers have to be playing to be allowed to smoke?Does anyone monitor the smokers who are not playing? I have never seen anyone monitoring this. A lot of people go to the casino only to smoke since that is one of the few indoor places they can smoke. Rebels82 Posted February 7, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted February 7, 2015 That is sad...not to start a war but other cruise lines have No Smoking Areas and they monitor it. If some smoker is "hanging out" they say please move on. It would be nice if all cruise lines have at least a Non Smoking area. That way smokers and non smokers have "their area" and dealers LOVE to work in the non smoking area.
My6Dogs Posted February 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2015 That's what happens when all the other smoking areas are taken away. All the smokers congregate at the few remaining. I'm not a smoker, but my wife is. Mike Sent from my iPhone using Forums
winddawn Posted February 7, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2015 Don't the smokers have to be playing to be allowed to smoke?Does anyone monitor the smokers who are not playing? Smokers are not monitored in the casino. I just got off Elation today and can say that the casino smoke is worse than ever. The smokers just walk around in the casino smoking, sit at the casino windows on the cushions, and sit around in any other chairs they can find and smoke. No one says a word. I am in the process of unpacking and doing laundry now, and everything in my suitcase has to be washed whether I wore it or not because it all smells like cigarette smoke. This week I even saw people in their night time clothes coming to the casino to smoke in the mornings on sea days. They are not going to ban smoking in the Casino they would lose too much money. People with bad habits have more than one and they want us to gamble and drink. I am also curious whether they have lost money by banning smoking on balconies? People who used to get balconies to smoke can and do book insides now. As for wearing nightclothes and coming to smoke in the casino.....that surprises me, but I wouldn't be surprised to see people up on the deck getting coffee and a cigarette before getting dressed. I wouldn't do it, but I know others would.
Rebels82 Posted February 8, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted February 8, 2015 Not trying to ban smoking in the casino...make everyone happy.....have a Smoke Free area with slots and tables and HAPPY dealers not having to deal with the smoke... MONITOR that area....the smokers can have their own area slots and tables....hopefully Carnival will do that in the future like other lines have done. MONITOR that area....the smokers can have their own area slots and tables....hopefully Carnival will do that in the future like other lines have done. First off, I'm a smoker. There are smoke free areas, but I'll admit the smoke does drift. One time I was smoking and got told to move. It turned out I didn't see the really tiny non smoking sign near the top of the slot machine. So unless you really look, those reminders can be missed. Also, there's smoking at some bars just as you exit, but that exit is near the no smoking section.

As a smoker you get pushed and discriminated everywhere. Nice to know there are places for us.

No smoking on balconies either. Smokers have just a few choices today vs. when I was young smokers could smoke everywhere in restaurants, stores, airplanes etc. I think a huge compromise has been made and I would consider it a excellent compromise. Happy cruising.

serene56 Posted February 23, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Just off Splendor. For our week it was enforced-- you could not walk around with a cigerrette. You needed to be sitting---PLAYING at a machine. and it better be a smoking machine. You can tell if the machine is smoking or non smoking by the tine decal located on the bottom of the machine (where you put your sign and sail card it) I didnt understand the smoking side vs the non smoking-- as in a bank of machines--one side was smoking and the other non-- really?? Most non smoking is over by the sports bar and over by the walk way on the promanade-- but there is one section of that bar that IS smoking. On the day of embarkation there is NO Smoking outside since they are refuleing-- and there are crew workers up there enforcing that. On deck 5 aft there was 1 room to smoke in (on the entire ship until 4:00) (the disco is usually a smoking area but since there was a wedding happening you could not go there. But ONE area of the entire ship for smoking for the entire afternoon. (nope, couldnt smoke in the casino as it was not opened yet. ^ could be why people tend to smoke where they shouldnt because there is no where to go. (and what is written in the fun times was sooo wrong. A FEW PEOPLE smoked on their balconies and I asked the cabin steward-- he basically said they only way they can enforce the no smoking is by catching them-- and do you know how hard that is to do?? SMSACE6 Posted February 23, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I have not been on the Splendor yet, but I think it will be the same on all Carnival ships. There is a small (very small) area of the casino where a few slot machines are marked (no smoking), but they are so few, and really offers no protection from the overall smoke in the casino. I have always found that it did not matter if I sat at a no smoking machine, I still ended up stinking of cigarette smoke later, so I just "suck it up" and play whichever machines I want, wherever they are. It used to not bother me so much, but as I get older, I find it more bothersome, so on my last cruise, I just curtailed my casino time. And yay...I spent way less money than usual there, and had more money for other things. :) I probably spent about 50 pc less than I usually do gambling because of this. One thing that I can suggest, is if you can; try to limit your casino time to the morning hours, just after they open. There are less people, therefore less smoke. That is what I did. I did not go in there much in the evening because, my eyes hurt from the smoke and my clothes stunk later, so I just stopped going after the second evening. By doing that I actually found that I did other things that I enjoyed, ie; watched a movie up on the deck at night, went to a couple of comedy shows, and discovered that playlist show was not really that bad, actually better than wasting my time and money in the casino. pe4all Posted February 23, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I got off the Splendor yesterday. Saw no differentiation in smoking/non-smoking areas being enforced in the casino. It was terribly smokey - I came out with bright red eyes from the irritation each evening. Even drops didn't help get the red out. (my red eyes are gone already - less than 24 hours home) We saw no one smoking on the balconies near us, which was a pleasure! Pretty much every ship I have been on has had smoke issues in the casino, as the ventilation systems don't seem adequate for the amount of smoke produced. Still won't stop me from playing each day, though!:D
cruising maniac Posted February 23, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 23, 2015 Well Great :( My dh prefers me not to gamble very much and he might just get his way. On the Dream, I pulled my t-shirt up over my mouth and nose.
