Cheap gals in Port Canaveral

Recommended Posts

Gonna be there next week, off the Pride. We're all in our mid-20's, and there isn't a lot of disposable income for any of us.

Cocoa Beach is well and good, but we're about to hit up the Bahamas, so a Floridian beach isn't all that exciting (yes, I've been there, it's nice, but not anything too special) - we're not big lay-out-at-the-beach-types. Hehe.

Tips for cheap fun near Port Canaveral? Cheap ways to do Kennedy Space Center, or nature tours, etc, etc nearby?

Thanks. Oh, and I saw the GIANT thread on the port, but I couldn't get through any of it - WAY too many pages of "stay at this hotel when you're SAILING OUT of this port". Just need a few "been-there, done-that" sorta tips from people who have PORTED here. :D

figs,

No need to get all snarky because the "I work in Port Canveral" thread is so large and hard to search. Yes, it's full of "where do i stay?" "how do i get there?" questions and responses, as are other threads on these boards where the port is primarily a departure port not a destination port.

Just take your question of what to do to that thread and post it there. Ask Preston or Shirley for advice. They live and work there and know about all the places and understand full well about $$ on cruises. They are very helpful and have no complaint about people asking them questions they answered 6 months and 30 pages back. Use your resources, don't dis them.

In the meantime try these sites to get started on some ideas.

And enjoy your cruise whatever you do.

Yup, and this is exactly the board I didn't want this post getting sent to - not much going on here for the non-homeport info. Sigh.

Errr... if you posted this thread initially anywhere but the Florida board, it was going to get moved eventually. That's why this Florida board is a stand-alone one - because the amount of threads is so numerous. The "big" thread is big for a reason, with lots of good info.

Crew: Not getting snarky, I'm just generally a blunt sort of gal. I really did spend about 30min trying different search terms and gave up - for me, it was WAS too large to be useful. I'm glad it works for you, but accept that you are not me, etc, etc. So I started my own thread with my specific questions. And now, exactly as feared, I'm getting referred back to the giant thread. I'll try posting in the thread.

Langley: If every board here on CC had ONE giant thread listing, say, ALL of Carnival's information, people would have kittens about it. The whole point is being able to ask your specific questions as a separate post. That's why I posted mine.

Thanks for the website links, Crew.

First issue is how you plan to get around ... renting a car will give you the most flexibility if it fits your budget. Since w/out a car your options are few to none I'll assume you will be renting one.

1. Everyone visits RonJon and buys a t-shirt. Just give in and do it.

2. You could take surfing lessons.....

3. WEB for Space Ctr has been provided ... but that ain't necessarily cheap....

4. Head out SR 520 to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp and take an airboat ride http://twisterairboatrides.tripod.com/

5. Grills, Rustys or Fishlips for lunch ... or the Lone Cabbage if there already. Have the Gator Tail!

6. Brevard Zoo is down the road a few miles - admission $12.50. Feed the Giraffe, kayak ... ride the train http://www.brevardzoo.org/home

7. With a car you can explore the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/

just some ideas ... If you come to the zoo stop by the train station and say hi .... I drive the choo choo train 4 days a week

(I think the PC thread is too big too....)

EEP! That's just the kind of info I was hoping for - Thanks!!! I've started researching these places....the only worry I have now is trying to organize a car rental, once I discuss it with my fellow adventurers. I hope they go for it. I wish KSC was cheaper - $40 + car + food + gas starts getting toward $100pp so very quickly....sigh . I'm spoiled up in DC - free museums! :D

Thanks again, and if we hit the zoo, we'll definitely come say hi!
