Equinox No Smoking Letter

Here's a copy (pdf) that was distributed on the Equinox regarding their smoking restrictions. They also included reminders on their daily newsletters.

They should have included the penalties for smoking in a non-designated area -- Walking The Plank. :)

We did have someone smoking a cigar in an adjacent cabin. Since the smoke and ashes made it to our verandah, we asked our neighbor to stop but he continued smoking (could have been he was not conversant in English). I ended up calling the Celebrity Guest Relations to report the cigar smoking and they indicated they would send someone to the room right away. I thought they meant they would come to my room to confirm my observation.

About 3 or 5 minutes later, I heard a crew memeber (I assume it was a Celebrity Equinox employee becuase of the uniform) speaking to the cigar smoker in another language (Italian I think). In any event, the smoker stopped and we did not have any further incidents during the rest of the cruise.

We leave in a couple of weeks on the Zaandam for Hawaii. We would have prefered to stay with Celebrity, but they bailed out on the West Coast.

There are several HAL posters that left Celebrity because of the smoking policy. I think of everything I'll miss about Celebrity, one of the biggest is the strict smoking policy. Holland seems to have become one of the last refuges for smokers.

I'm hoping this means that the casino is also non-smoking. My husband is really bothered by cigarette smoke and we've avoided the casino because it is so polluted with smoke. I have felt resentful on many cruises that I wasn't able to enjoy the slots because some cigarette smokers rights were more important than mine.

Yes. The policy is no smoking in the Equinox casino.

Wow. I'm glad Celebrity staff acted so fast and responded to your call! Nice to know.

  • 3 months later...

I guess I know where my next Jan cruise will be. THE EQUINOX. Just got off the Carnival Liberty and I still cant breathe Smokers like to say their rights are important.. I Could not go out on my balaony I extra for. I took 2 - 24 hour allergy pills and two tylenol sinus and 4 excederin a day just to survive the cruise. Neighbors smoked on balcony could only look out door., got off elevators hand to cover my face to walk any where the only place I could go was the dining rooms but had to cover my face to get there and the venicien lounge for the shows. I tried the piano bar lasted about 5 mins. The player was awsome all my favorite song but had to leave. How many pills does a smoker have to take to walk down the aisle of a non smoker so they can breath? It makes me teribly sick. Got off boat yesterday and throat and head still are very scratchy eyes are still puffed out...I'm not saying they should quit smoking but in this age I thought their was enough non-smokers that they would make one smoke-free boat some where....Just for the people who can't enjoy the $5,000.00 they spent for the family to have fun. Smokers can still have all the others but just give us ONE so we can also enjoy ourselves. All the smokers were having a great time while I suffer through How fair is that?? Nobody told me my non smoking room had a smoking balcony..Carnival told me they cant control what their passangers do??? So just let them capatin the boat. I didn't even know I had a band wagon but I just jumped on...I actually had some one throw pop on me for complaining there was nowhere to sit that I could breathe. Everytime I sat on deck someone next to me would light up went to room showered and watch DENVER news??? All they played?

I hope they do the same on Solstice!

Solstice is the same--it's a fleet wide policy-- now if they could get the heavy perfume out of the elevators, I could breathe--some of it is almost toxic--esp to those with allergies..!!!

I there a listing of the smoking areas on the other X ships posted somewhere. I am a non-smoker and just wondering if its generally same side/placement on all the decks? Port aft deck 12 etc... Especially wondering about Summit.

Actually I find this letter lacking in the way it addresses cigar and pipe smoking. It states that "Sunset Bar ... is the recommended area for pipe and cigar smoking" which implies to me that such smoking, while not recommended, is still allowed in the other mentioned areas including Sky Lounge. Celebrity's written Smoking Policy http://www.celebritycruises.com/beforeyourcruise/faq/home.do;jsessionid=0000bYvECRML-jghK7SCjzDHNtk:12hdebdrn?faqSubjectName=Ship+and+Stateroom+Details&faqId=572&pagename=faq_answers states "cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas", which would preclude the Sky Lounge.

I couldn't agree more about the perfume. For me, it's much more obnoxious than cigarette smoke.

Just got off the Equinox and it was really nice to be able to use my balcony without being smoked out. However there were some who "snuck" in a smoke from time to time, but I could never quite figure out who. I would have turned them in quickly. Having the Casino smoke free allowed to me finally go in there and enjoy myself.

There were a lot of Europeans on the Christmas trip, and they occasionally disregarded the "non smoking" areas. However as the trip went along this mostly stopped. I would guess that they were reminded.

Does anyone know if the aft cabins can smell the cigar/cigarette smoke from the sunset bar.. I know it will probably be dispersed in the air but we are in 9382(panorama deck). We have moved down a floor because of the soot problem so hopefully we will be far enough away
