Roseau, Dominica

For those who have been there, what interesting sites are there to see in the capital city, Roseau?

 

Also on my agenda for that day is a "self guided walking tour" of Roseau.

If you are doing a self guided walking tour of Roseau you may start at the old market area,then visit the Dominica museum at the bayfront. Followed by a walk up to the Fort Young Hotel one of Dominica's best hotel. Visit the libruary, one of Dominica's radio station D.B.S Radio. Then nearby is the parliament building and state house. You can continue your walk onwards to the Botanical gardens there you can see some beautiful trees and a parrot aviary. End your walk with a refreshing drink at pearls cuisine, symes zees or the orchard restaurant.

IMO if there's one port where you are going to spring for a tour, it's Dominica. For about $40-45/pp you can spend most of the day touring this beautiful island. However, if you are going to do a walking tour of Roseau, keep in mind that it is very small, tropical (i.e hot), and prone to rain showers.

Is it safe to walk the streets of Roseau? Was there last year walking in the waterfront market and was approached by a young girl on a side street to buy drugs.:eek:

I agree with 138east, Dominica is so beautiful and a tour is inexpensive. about 50.00 pp. and you get to see a lot.

There's not a lot to see in Roseau. You really need to take a tour and get outside of the "city." It's a great island for natural wonders--swimming, snorkeling, hiking, etc.

Is the pier near the center of town or is it much of a walk? Been there but don't remember.:confused:

Not much of interest there in the city so get out into the island. Take a tour....It's a beautiful unspoiled island.

After the initial crowds of people got off the ship, we negotiated with the remaining taxi drivers for what we wanted to do. Besides the driver, we had a very knowledgeable lady who narrated and welcomed our questions. It was a wonderful way to spend our day in Dominica! What a beautiful and unspoiled island!

We did the ship tour and saw the city and country. Spent time at the Carib village and were able to talk with them and see how they live. Had a great lunch and cooled off in the river. The countryside is beautiful and must be seen.
