thisislou Posted October 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2009 I just read this entry from “fairstars” dated 10/09/09 “As of yesterday we can no longer log in and when I went to the internet cafe they informed me that all VOIP is blocked. We have used it for the last 23 days but apparently no longer You can't even download the program, it looks as though anything concerning Skype is blocked.” I sail Nov 1 and was hoping to use my magic jack as I have done on 2 previous sailing.. but his if true, would stop that. Anyone have an input on this? thanks
-Lew- Posted October 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2009 I know that on the Grand there are a number of wireless networks. I have been able to use Skype on my iPhone while in my cabin, but not in the atrium or near the Internet Cafe. Lew
1025cruise Posted October 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2009 Personally, I have no issue with VOIP being blocked on each ship. It takes the bandwidth away from other users who are trying to do other things on the internet given the limited connection via satellite. In fact, most satellite ISPs block VOIP on their end.
