San Juan Explosion near pier-- possible plane crash

The title of this tread was possible plane crash. Reuters picked up an explosion. Not the same! personally I think this thread should be pulled because of the title. No point in alarming people.

What is you had friends or relatives on that flight??

At least let the mods change the heading.

It should never have been posted that way when it was not certain. :(

Again -Your point?

That would be rather obvious to anyone with a brain since someone mentioned a terrorist event possibility regarding independence minded PR terrorists.....

I don't like terrorists, unlike the people who I originally mentioned who seem to not have a problem with them at all in any shape form or fashion. I hope I have clarified this so that even you can figure it out.

"Someone "mentioned" a terrorist event possibility"? And that got you all worked up.

But, your "terrorist" expectation for this event didn't pan out, did it? Oh, I can figure it out just fine, and I have a very good brain. I think that you are just projecting and trying to be political. I think you need to do a little research into terrorist prevention....beginning in 2000. Rolling eyes.

Ok....

There is no plane/crash involved. The refinery has 42 tanks (of thousands of tons) some are empty and some not. They have processed fuel, oil and even jet fuel. At the moment there is a big (huge) smoke cloud on top of the air that can be seen from all around the Metropolitan Area (San Juan and surrounding towns).

Now, there is no terrorist group in the island, there is only a group of Socialist (they are completely different from the groups looking for Independence) called "Macheteros" and they did not took part on this. Police and Fire Dept Officials have said this could be either an accident since the tanks had some rust and it's being said that one had a hole in some area, but they also say it could be a criminal situation.

Now.. what is really interesting is that Caribbean Petroleum (Gulf) had renewed their insurance with AIG in PR just four months ago, there were no employees in the area, since they were already asked to move because of the situation with unstable tanks and that the plant supposedly needed major investment to bring it up to date.

Regarding the ships.. there is no worries whatsoever since the Panam Pier and the Old San Juan Pier are far from this area, although I guess you would get to see the smoke.

this will be a matter of time to get the "real" truth.

Thanks very much for posting the real deal! A poster had mentioned that this might be a "terrorist" act by local separatists (many of whom were pardoned, apparently). AIG - now there's a name that a few Americans just love! But most don't. "It's obvious to anyone with a brain".

I didn't think it was a terrorist event. Someone mentioned that they thought there might be a PR terrorist group, and I added confirmation of the existence of such a group. If you were not so politically uptight to defend your poor voting choices by denigrating a fact that you obsessed over it for a day. That is truly funny. I am so glad you decided to return to CC your flair for conversation has been sorely missed. :D There have been almost no facts posted on this entire thread including the title, and here you obsess over my fact. I think that speaks volumes.:D

So, please continuing obsessing on me... I need some new fans since jj is on a nightmare cruise.

There is a rather violent group in PR that acts up every once in a while, they are for the independence of PR.

Could it be the FALN (Fuerza Armada por La Liberacion Nacional). These guys were big in the New York area in the seventies and eighties. They were involved with the bombing of Fraunces Tavern in NYC and the plugging with super glue of door locks on several large New York banks.

Don't know if they could be making a comeback.

It does seem suspicious that this event happened at the same time as these government-government union labor problems are occuring.

It is also unfortunate that this employment issue is occuring in such a

poor economic environment. I assume there is a connection.

Not to be overly concerned about purely personal things, but are there any reports about this spilling over to embarkations from San Juan?

Okay who cares?

At the moment there is a big (huge) smoke cloud on top of the air that can be seen from all around the Metropolitan Area (San Juan and surrounding towns).

Yes I only mentioned there might a possibility of smoke affecting passengers based on wind.

Now, there is no terrorist group in the island

Oh yeah the macheteros are a peaceful loving organization that has killed Navy personnel, stolen money from Wells Fargo, and were labeled a terrorist organization by the US.

Now.. what is really interesting is that Caribbean Petroleum (Gulf) had renewed their insurance with AIG in PR just four months ago, [/Quote]

Can you back this up??? I would be interested in reading about it.

People.. I'm not interested in spending my time (to not say waste) with back and forth comments... just tried to give some real info. for all those fellow cruisers that might be coming to PR during this weekend.

Not talking about macheteros here... since they are not been considered by the local authorities or the FBI in this situation... actually in ALL three major local newspapers (and since I work in this area can have real info.) is that 'till next week uncertainty will surround the real causes but there are some real issues with the company, how they managed and kept their areas and the government.. actually they had to go into the Federal Court several years ago to get all permits back and continue their operations after some nasty environmental issues.

So, to those coming this weekend or next week... as I already said.. the smoke cloud is big but is not affecting Old San Juan or the PanAm Pier.

To AMCG,

We have cruised out of San Juan MANY times.I don't know why some people may be enjoying talking about so called trouble. We have stayed there and walked the streets late at night,I feel very safe walking around. We are usually in the Condado or Isle Verdi sections. So lets get back to the fine and relaxing times in San Juan.

And AMCG,Thank you.

Far from obsessing, I just wanted to acknowledge your pomposity, which you definitely displayed. Thanks! I absolutely made a poor choice by voting for our former Prez...don't remind me! Glad you still love me!

SURE, which is why you made an unsubstantiated claim against AIG.

If you look back on the thread, you can see how quickly we were trying to bring correct information. You can also see that when I post, if I don't have first hand knowledge- I link to reputable sources.
