new orleans port

Hi:)

In 2004, before Katrina, for our very 1st cruise on the Conquest, we stayed 2 nights pre-cruise at the New Orleans Westin. It was fabulous!

Our room overlooked the Mississippi, and the Riverboat dock as well as the French Quarter. Was only a short shuttle ride to the dock. Could walk 1 block to French Quarter and Bourbon st.

Have a great Cruise

BOB:)

Can anyone suggest a hotel for pre cruise new orleans? How far is bourbon street from the port?

thanks

A lot of folks use the Drury Inn because of the park & cruise special. Bourbon St is probably about 10-12 blocks from the terminal.

Im at the Drury. I was surprised that they now charge $35 for the first night, went from zero to $15 and now $35.

Other hotels also charge for parking if you stay in the French Qtr, so it isnt the only hotel charging, just think $35 is starting to make the decision a little harder.

Drury cruise package also includes the good hot breakfast and free happy hour and 1 hour of long distance, on the plus side.

Harrahs is very close to the port, I could walk looked like to me. So a cab ride from the airport.

There are also some cheaper hotels on hotwire, I would do one in french qtr.

If you dont need the parking package for Drury, then you can use the e-rate which is cheaper than the cruise rate by as much as $30 and you dont need to worry about the parking charge. Drury still has a good breakfast, happy hour and large rooms and if you dont want to park, I think the erate was like $84 perhaps? anyway, considerably cheaper than NOLA cruise rate.

Don't know if you are a member of Harrahs Total Rewards but if you are make sure to login at their website with your card and check to see if you can get a comped room. We are leaving Wednesday for a cruise on the Fantasy 11/5 cruise and we got a comped room at Harrahs. We have done this the last few times we have cruised out of NOLA. Also if you gamble at the casino your parking is free during your stay.

We like it cause it is close to the port and also close to some good restaurants and also within walking distance to Cafe Du Monde.

Many choices as there are many hotels downtown and near the port. Depends on what you want to spend and how close you want to be to the port. The Drury is about a 5-10 minute cab ride to the port and could be a good choice when you factor in breakfast. There's also a few hotels on Convention Center Blvd...(that's VERY close to the port) and there might be some good pricing at those. I would suggest doing a search of Warehouse District Hotels and you'll come up with a few that are close and likely a good range of prices.

Harrah's is about a 30 minute cab ride from the airport. It's a 5 minute ride to the port and a 5 minute ride to Bourbon Street.

We stayed at Drury 4 nights pre-cruise in July. Had a great stay- cost the 4 of us $12 to the port. Nice breakfast, manager's cocktail party each day from 5-7 with drinks, snacks, soda, chips, popcorn, etc. Didn't have a car, but Bourbon St. was a few minutes walk literally right down the road. Would definitely stay there again.

I have stayed at the Doubletree (across the street from Harrah's), Ramada on Bourbon Street. I booked the Doubletree again and also Marriott. I want to go back to Acme Oyster House. I walked from Doubletree to Cafe du Mundo. A lot of people have stayed at the Druary. I checked the web sites to see where they are located. Cabs are all one price from airport to hotel and around 10.00 (maybe) to hotel to port. They are all around. I took taxi from Ramada to Central Grocery and he waited for me while I had my muffalatta made.
