Back to Back Cruises

I have been thinking of booking two cruises on the same ship back to back. I would book a ship which returns to original debarkation site and then go out on the same ship on its next cruise. Hopefully the second cruise would be to a different destination than the first cruise. Has anyone managed to do this?

Welcome to Cruise Critic!:) Many people have managed to do that. :D Serenade of the Seas out of San Juan is epecially popular for consecutive cruises. They have an A and B itinerary that visits alternate Eastern and Southern Carribean islands on alternating weeks.

 

Other ships out of Florida alternate the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Enjoy your cruises! :)

we did back-2-back on the navigator back in 2003 for our honeymoon. week 1 we went to the western caribbean and week 2 the eastern. it was awesome! we hope to do it again someday!

As above, yes many do it.

Get all your ducks in a row before you book it. Of course, you want the same cabin for both cruises. If you feel you need a Travel Agent, that's OK. However, you can book it directly with the cruise line and maintain almost 24/7 control over your booking (excursions, price changes, dinner ressies, shows, beverage packages, etc.), and make changes on-line.

And as above, back to backs (B2B's) are now called Consecutive Cruises. Just a change in cruise line lingo.

If you enjoy the Caribbean out of Florida, there are ships that do 7-day cruises specifically for that idea. The Itenerary will be the Eastern Caribbean one week, then the Western Caribbean the next.

Things you should include in your planning:

 

1) Be sure to schedule when you can book the SAME CABIN for both weeks. This provides you the relaxing on Sat. night when everyone else is packing to leave.

 

2) Your dining room assignment will change the next week unless you get with the Matre 'D and ask for the same table/waiter (assuming you may want the same).

 

3) You are actually booking 2 cruises with 2 seperate booking numbers and will have 2 seperate "Set Sails" and 2 seperate "Sea-Pass" bills.

 

4) You should look for BOTH Rollcall Threads to join, and you can be the "Provider of Info" for the second week Rollcall. ;)

I'm sure there are more tips from others.

Darrell & Donna reminded me of something else.

Towards the end of your first leg, like the next to last day, go to Guest Relations and remind them about your Conseutive Cruises. Every once in a while, the right hand and left hand at RCCL get confused and something falls thru the cracks. Your very few minutes talking to GR could save you much hassle later. And, they, at the same time, will advise you on the procedures for the transfer day.

Last year, we did back-to-back cruises. On Carnival. It was a little strange - they were both considered Western Caribbean, but went to all different ports. The first was an 8 day, going as far as the Panama canal, and the second was a 6 day. Loved them!

I am doing a B2B next summer on the Serenade. That ship is offering great alternative itineraries every week which make it a great ship for a B2B.

DH and I did a back to back last November on the Navigator of the Seas. They were both Western Caribbean Itineraries but with all different ports. Don't panic if you are not able to get the same cabin. We didn't have the same one last year and it was no problem at all. You just let your cabin steward know where you will be moving to. Leave everything in your closet that is hanging up (they will move it as is) and just throw everything else into your suitcases and leave them on the bed for the short little jaunt into your new home. (ours were waiting for us on the beds when we came back to the room). We are doing another back to back coming up in January and again we do not have the same room (this was deliberate as I really just wanted to try a Promenade room and then we will switch over to a balcony). This back to back is a Western Itinerary followed by an Eastern.

:DDW & I will be doing a b2b on the Navigator later this month out of Miami. First cruise is 5 nts. and will go to Labadee adn Ochos Rios. We will return to Miami on Thanksgiving and will depart on a 4 nt. cruise to Cozumel. Did the same thing on the same ship last year and loved it.:)

Just returned this week from a b2b on the Splendour out of Venice. Each weeks itinerary was different except for Corfu. We had our new Sea Pass cards delivered for the 2nd week on the first Friday evening. We did have to change cabins but only by two doors. Just took all the clothes on hangers from one room to the next. Our cabin steward was great in getting the new room ready asap so we could spend the day in Venice. and because it was our first RCI cruise we got to go to the Crown and Anchor reception the second week. Just made sense to do a b2b with the airfare so costly.

Of course, if you really want to splash out, do a b2b2b. Last year we did a 4 day and 2 x 5 day cruises on the Navigator out of Barcelona, so it was a full 14 day holiday, but 3 cruises. We also had a JS, so for that one 14 day cruise, we got 6 C&A points each (one for each cruise and one for being in a JS each time). It is a good way of climbing the points ladder. The only real disadvantage is that the shows will probably be the same and the menus tend to repeat a bit, but I can put up with that! The best bit is the smug look you can have on your face as everyone else gets off and you stay on!!
