RCCL's response to my question in regards to bringing soda aboard.

Recommended Posts

I'll admit, I didn't know this about RCCL. I just cruised Carnival, and we took two 12-pks aboard in plain sight in a shopping bag, and they had no problem with it whatsoever. It actually says on their website that passengers are allowed 'moderate amounts' of non-alcoholic beverages. I went for it, and I would do it again on RCCL.

I just returned from a cruise on the Rhapsody of the Seas and in Key West, I went to the local grocery and purchased a case of Caffeine Free Pepsi and carried it right back onboard. Before leaving the ship,I did ask an RCCL person there at the entrance of the ship as well as one of the ship security guys and both said it was ok to bring soda pops. Of course, after drinking one of the sodas, I began to glow....probably had something to do with the x-ray machine.

It is very funny that people complain about price increases and extra charges when they are the ones who are contributing to them. If every passenger brought on their own sodas, wine, beer and water the cruise lines would have a major problem on their hands. ie, they would be losing a ton of money!!! My fist cruise was in 1990 on the Sovereign of the seas and my husband and I paid $2000 for a standard outside cabin. We went on the Voyager last summer (14 years later) and paid the same price for a much larger balcony cabin. The cruising industry is just about the only industry that is acutally charging less today than ever before.

Come on guys, you are on vacation! What a hassle to be worrying about exploding beer cans and breaking wine bottles in your luggage.

Brad, my issue with you is this:

You come on here, make sweeping statements and scream about how much RCI stinks.

Here's what I don't get: multiple people on here (me included) have pointed out instances where you are FLAT OUT WRONG on many of your assertions. Yet you continue to post them. Why?

As for your cruise in July - if you're so ticked with RCI, why not cancel and book with someone else?

AdrieneAGD,
you are so right, but let´s be patient with this poor guy. We all know that he is simply lying about many issues. But this poor poor guy is hating RCCL for some reason and it seems he is forced by some reason to go on a RCCL cruise. And of course he has to go on the worst cruise he has ever been on and I´m looking for his post being back and telling all of us how bad his expierience was and to go never back.
But let´s see the good side it´s just about 50 days until he leaves us (he has promised this) and never returns.

No one has shown me anything to indicate that I am flat out wrong with any statement made. Remember RCI used to be our favorate line and with Celebrity we have done close to 15 cruises with them. Last year on the Millennium and the Nav, we had a fantastic cruise with no complaints. The only thing that bothered me was the towel thing on the Nav, but thats a minor irritant. No complaints on the Mille at all. I had long prepaid our $8,800 fee for the Jewel, you have to cancel within 70 days of July 15th. I thought people would have enough sense to stop RCI but I was wrong. These changes started around Mid March, my wife did not want to cancel. The 8 week test of JR would go to mid May. While we were waiting and hoping the JR test would fail, RCI started the other changes like the same lunch menu and others. So we decided to go and hope for the best, but made it clear to my wife, it would be our last cruise with them. She is fine with that. We are doing the countdown clock to say goodbye to RCI. 49 days and counting before we leave. So there are 49 days of me left then there will be the after cruise review, then Im gone and you will not have to read anymore comments on the negative changes RCI is doing.

People have tried to show where I have been wrong with any statement and failed miserably. For instance someone said about the charge for burgers, wrong, there included except for JR. Well there is not except here, they are charging in JR on 2 ships, so my statement is correct. I feel everything I said is correct.

Brad, it is all about attitude. I really liked the way you discussed with the HAL folks that they are snobs. That was an instant classic.

Well AdrieneAGD, if ya were to read all of ole Brads post you would find that he is an equal opportunity poster. He doesn't like much of anything, including The Cruise Critic Staff, and lets everybody know it. Its a shame that he distorts the facts though. Sure does a disservice to any newby that might be around.

I didn't go near the pools at night, so I can't answer that. However, every evening my room steward replaced my day pool towels with clean ones and he was always around for me to ask. At one point we had 4 clean pool towels in our cabin.

I don't see the problem. Every day at the pool we switched our sopping wet towels with dry ones.

In the spa, they had fresh clean towels for the jacuzzi in the ladies room as well.

Oh I see, I'm responding to my father, who complains about EVERYthing LOL! It's hopeless.

Anyway, they wouldn't give out free towels all day long if cheesy passengers weren't stealing them. There's a reason for their "madness" and I don't blame them. That said, I still felt as though there were plenty of towels for me on a 24 hour basis. I never felt overly wet.

Also, regarding bringing wine and soda on board - since I'm one of those passengers that could cost the cruiselines meeeellions of dollars....

After reading these boards and hearing that the wine selection on RCI was "swill", I got scared and brought my own. The same with the champagne selections. I feel at this point I could have left the wine at home. The champagne I brought was very good and if I had bought it there, I would be paying WAY too much. $75 for a $40 bottle??? I drink a LOT of champagne and that would have been outlandish for me.

Regarding the diet ginger ale. I don't like drinking diet coke. I prefer caffeine free sodas. That's why I did that. Now that I've gone on my first cruise in 19 years, I feel that I could have had seltzer w/lime at the bars. I didn't need to have the diet ginger ale and I probably won't bring it back.

Bottled water. I must have water. With all the drinking I did at the bars (the two of us have a $700 bar tab) I needed the water IN my cabin 24/7. Do you think I cost the ship mega bucks after spending $700 on my seapass account? (This does not include the $300 in spa services - 2 massages to be exact - that I spent).

I can't speak for other people who bring their own liquids on board, but I don't think the Navigator suffered because of me, that's for sure.

Of course it´s your right to FEEL to be correct even if you are not.
You said they charge for burgers and ff.
They don´t do in general but only at JR. All other spots on the ship you can get them for FREE.

You know...it would be much more enjoyable to read these posts if people would stick to the subject at hand rather than questioning the poster's motives, or expressing you own opinion of the irrelevance of someone else's opinion.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's not a crime to post a complaint, even if it is against RCI.

Pardon my digression from the OP. I've learned so much from these boards to benefit my upcoming cruise. And I'm perfectly capable of deciding for myself if a post is valuable to me. Please don't spoil the pleasure of this board by all this name calling and flaming!

I think it's fair to call someone out if they are inaccurate though. If someone's primary purpose is to bash RCI unneccessarily, then they deserve to be called out on the rug.

I visit a lot of different types of boards and this is board culture, like it or not. People who like to stir the pot, deserve the golden spoon award.

Sounds to me like alot of you folks just want to go "camping" on a cruise ship.

About carrying on big coolers, if they can't fit through the scanner (just like at the airports), they will have to be checked. I'd hate like h*ll to have to follow around someone in a cue line dragging a big cooler around.
It's common sense folks, that's all, just common sense. Try it sometime, it's refreshing.

When I asked the intial question to RC, I never thought the post would get so many people involved, I am someone who has only cruised a couple of times and wanted to bring a soft rolling cooler, (the size for a couple 6 packs) go thru the scanner and be done, am I wrong?

iceman111, I have the small rolling cooler you are talking about and is no bigger than a carry on an shaped like a cube and folds to almost nothing.... Brought it on our last cruise w/ soda and water and fit through the scanner w/ no problem and plan on bringing it on my next cruise as there was no problem at all with it or what was in it....So... NO YOU ARE NOT WRONG, GO WITH IT..... Call it a rolling piece of luggage instead because you can use it as that too, You will have no problems or worries mate........

Chicagomom-Please understand that while I fully support your contention that everyone should be entitled to post their honest opinion on a subject without rebuke, be it positive or negative, I can not stand idly by while someone arbitrarily, and capriciously distorts the facts. I am not pretentiously pretending to know why that poster continues to do that very thing, nor would I care but for the fact that there are many "viewers" and "newbies" who take his distortions at face value. He very well may believe that he is right, as disingenuous as that may seem, but I somewhat doubt that based on his previous post.
