These Boards are Gettting Shaky Again

From what I can tell, from the types of errors generated, this is really a server-based issue. So while some types of client-side interactions may encounter problems more than others (POSTs vs. GETs, for example), the core of the problem still rests on the server. There is a real question, I'd suspect, with respect to cost-benefit. Almost surely, this software is architected so that it can be hosted on a more scalable topology, but are the advertising revenues sufficiently high to cover the higher cost?

Well, yeah....that's it actually.

January is our HUGE month. We see tremendous growth right after the holidays. Newbies visit the boards...and their pattern takes them back to the very first post they can possibly read.....which means the server hiccups. Alot.

We are working continually on this, and things are better today. Each time ANYONE receives the dreaded "database not available message" we are sent a notification. They have dropped 90% today. That's a good thing.

Still, with the problems, we're averaging an ADDITIONAL 2500 posts per day, bringing us to just under 10,000 new posts each day.

We're very happy with this new software, we think it works extremely well, and for the most part we haven't had any problems with the format. We are, however, very new at HOSTING it ourselves.....and STILL think we are doing a better job at it than the company who hosted us before.

We did remove the "Who's Online" feature as that taxes the server. We will eventually return that feature, as *I* myself like it as much as you do.

Thanks to those who have sent me very nice e-mails about the problems (yes, we know you are addicted!) and to everyone for their patience and understanding.

Laura
