And what is wrong with looking at how the other side lives?

You people on this board are just a bit touchy about comments that do not fawn upon an expensive and excessive (to most) lifestyle, especially in this economy.

If you choose to spend your money on "palatial suites" and other over-the-top luxuries, that certainly is your affair....... Have at it!

But then do not expect others to kowtow to your vanities. And do expect some criticism, after all, I have read complaint after complaint about the dress and manners (or lack thereof) of a certain type of passenger on some of your "better" ships! LOL

Have a wonderful cruise, enjoy!

Interesting article, Laura!

First of all, Oceania is not a luxury cruise line -- it is a "premium" cruise line. Regent, it's sister line, is luxury. In fact, the "Luxury Cruising" section has a mix of luxury and premium -- not that this is a big deal.

IMO, no one has the right to judge anyone about anything -- especially not on CruiseCritic. CC is about answering questions for people who cruise and sharing information.

In the case of what type of people cruise luxury or mainstream lines. . . you could not possibly figure it out. Some very wealthy people prefer the crazy fun you can have on some of the mainstream cruise lines and would find the luxury lines terribly boring. Some passengers on luxury lines have saved for years to have a special experience for a particular occasion(like anniversaries). We have met people on Regent who won the cruise and others that have retired, sold their homes and treated themselves to a once in a lifetime cruise.

So, IMHO, it isn't about how the other half lives. . . . it is about how people choose to spend their vacation. To get back on subject for a moment, the new Oceania ship sounds wonderful -- thank you for sharing the article.
