Balcony or not Balcony

Hi all

Before I ask my question, can I just state that I have absolutly nothing against smokers whatsoever, and they don't bother me in the slightest. The RCI rules state that smoking is allowed on there ships so I have no complaint about this,

but

I am booked on BOS next year in a Outside stateroom on deck 3, but for a small increase in price could get a E3 balcony on deck 7. Now here's the problem, this would be a suprise for my wife, but she is VERY asthmatic and cigarette smoke is one of the major things to set off an attack. I have read on this brilliant forum that you can get smoke from adjacent balconys blowing into others. With this in mind, would this be a major problem? Would you recommend getting the upgrade or staying where we are?

Please, this not a "get at" smokers, and I don't want to start a debate about the rights/wrongs etc. of smoking, but just after some practical advice.

Regards

Martin

Balcony. Period.

Even if you have smokers on either sides of you, at least you could still enjoy the balcony and you're wife can just enjoy the air inside with the door closed tightly. She's just as apt to be exposed to smoke walking on the promenade or passing through the casino. So why you would deprive yourself this luxury in your own stateroom just doesn't make any sense.

Get the balcony, try it out. If you have a problem, adjust. But seriously, do you honestly believe that someone smoking on the balcony next door is going to have any effect on someone at 30 knots in the middle of the ocean?

No, I didn't say "be able to smell it" ... I said "have an effect."

I think no.

I agree with everything said so far. In addition, most smokers are not out on their balconies smoking 24/7 ( I know, there are those who will say they have experienced this, but it is not every smoker on every balcony on every cruise). I am sure you and your wife will both enjoy some smoke-free time on your balcony. For a small increase in price, go for the balcony. I don't think you'll regret it. I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

For sure, get the balcony!

Never been on a cruise that we didn't have a balcony. (and never will)

Never had any problem from anyone smoking.

I for SURE don't like to be around smoke. And I once smoked!

Sometimes we ex-smokers can even be more militant than the Pink Lung People.

We have had a cigar smoker two balconies over (aft)and it was rare we noticed the smoke while we were moving. In fact had I not seeen the cigar I would not have known he was smoking one. On the other hand when in port it was a bit more evident. I would say get the balcony and enjoy.

We've never had a problem with smoke blowing into our balcony space....even if you should get a whiff of it, it's so diluted, that it shouldn't precipitate an asthma attack. Especially when the ship is underway, the wind near the railing is quite brisk...things tend to blow away quickly, so hold onto your hat!
