(Have been to Maracas Bay on previous stops here) Nothing really worth seeing in walking distance. It's a very commercial area, banks business offices etc.

The downtown area of Port of Spain is not 'tourist-ready' --not by a long shot mainly because (unlike other Caribbean islands) Trinidad's economy isn't at all oriented around Tourism. They have Oil -lots of the stuff! .................................................. Your best and easiest bet by far is to do a tour over their Northern Range (some nice scenery here and there, thru the rain forest) to get to the North Coast -and to Maracas Bay where a pleasant beach awaits! Perhaps you might get together a group of you (three couples?) and hire a taxi-van thing and have him take you over there and wait awhile, so he can take you back. _____________________________________________ If you want something quick and short, and not far from the dock a ride up the hill to Fort George ..where a nice view awaits you...would have you do something at the very least! Good shopping at WEST MALL is close by, too _______________________________________ As my Trinidad-born wife has just suggested Trinidad is one of those places where doing a ship's tour is well worth the money ;) and the avoidance of hassle and traffic aggravation not to mention guaranteed return to the ship, if running late. . I'd simply take a taxi in the Port of Spain heat, but if you insist on walking.. Stick to the same side of Wrightston Road that the dock's on take a left out of the dock's entrance and walk Westward(out of the city). You'll get to the MovieTowne shopping complex first (includes PriceSmart =Cosco/Costco in your country) West Mall is another 1.5-2? miles beyond MovieTowne. Honestly, I'd just jump in a cab and take the 5-10 min. ride to West Mall. Not far if you're driving, but a bit of a hot slog, to walk it. - depends on how much weight you need to lose! :D .
