If I were in charge. I would look at the feasibility of using an U.S. flagged ship as transportation up and down both coasts. Starting In Bar Harbor Maine stopping at all ports such as Boston, New york, Philly, Norfolk, Charleston, Cape Canaveral, Miami, New Orleans, Texas, True the canal with stops in Cal. Washington, up to Alaska turn around and head back.

Some people will not fly. Don,t like trains. Hate to drive.

I would pay a fair price to get on in Boston and get of in Florida Visit with Family for a week or two then catch a ship back home.

Just a thought.

They could break up the legs of the cruise One from New Enland to FL, One from Florida to LA and TX, one through the canal to CA and Washington then the last to Alaska. This was you can go as far as you want. (ok, if you don't stay on for the whole trip you will have to find your own transportation home) It may be a little far fetched but I would love the East Coast run anyway!:)

Just back from the Jewel 12-20 and Jean Ann Ryan Productions was there. They performed Le Cirque Bijou, Country Gold and the name of the other show slips my mind but they were all fantastic. Actually the entertainment overall from production numbers down to the parties at night was the best part of my cruise. The food not just the atmosphere but quality needed improvement.

 

Wow thanks for that. Maybe my Cruise Enternainment in 6 months time will be even more entertaining than I envisioned :D

Too bad the SS Independence couldn't be brought up to date - it was a nice (though small) ship and met the Made-In-USA requirements.

6) Allow hot items on the room service menu.

7) A few US-type 110v outlets scattered around the ship, so that laptop users can charge their batteries.

8) Designated non-smoking blocks of cabins (hey, I can dream, can't I?).

9) One or more non-smoking nights at the casino.

 

 

Of course, these are my personal wishes, and I know that some of them would cause the base fare to rise.

Some of these things must vary by ship.

 

We had (2) on the Gem (December 2009).

 

We had (3) on the Gem - in fact, we were often asked if we wanted to share a table.

 

We didn't even have one of (4) on the whole ship.

 

We could have had (6) if we'd paid thousands more and gotten a suite. But yes, that would be good. I'd pay for the ability to have hot room service food, and eat breakfast and lunch at Cagney's. All the suites are in high-sea-motion areas, so I wouldn't want one even with unlimited money.

 

I didn't notice outlets anywhere (7). If they were 220 volts, you could buy a MacBook for your next trip, and then all you'd need is a plug adapter.

 

(8) would be really good. They should adopt Celebrity's smoking policy (allowed only a few places, NOT including cabins or balconies).

 

I don't know about (9). I'd lose more money if I went more often.

On each of our three cruises we attended the shore excursion talks. They always end up focusing on buying jewelry, watches, etc. On our last trip I swore if I heard them say this one more time "if you see it and if you like it, then buy it!" .... ...grrrr!

 

So my suggestion is stop pushing the onboard and onshore shopping 24 hours a day.

Double the size of the Garden Cafe seating area or throw out all the passengers who are hogging tables and playing cards or reading while others can't find a table to sit and eat.

Simple things;

 

Like tell us the truth. ie; when the hot tubs are down for 13+days tell us why, or at least an explanation of some sorts. Not just, they will be fine in the next day or two. (Panama December LA to Miami).

Return the suite happy hour menus!

 

We use to get a mini menu of what treats we wanted delivered at 5ish the next day. They've done away with this and now you get whatever they have, both sweet and savory. We don't like sweets so we found newlyweds to give them away to. We used to order the cheese plate and pretzels and now that has been taken away. Is this trivial to you? It was a huge plus to us as we all gathered in my suite for happy hour to catch up with each other. We loved having treats delivered. They are doing away with too many things!

Just finished my 6th NCL cruise. Here are my suggestions:

 

1. Charge less for drinks. I bought several drinks of the day and after tips they came out to over $9 per drink. I would have bought more drinks if the price was in the $6-$7 range with tip. I know someone set the prices are comparable to a nice club, but I'm not at the club 7 days straight. Other cruise lines charge less and people would by more if they cost less so NCL would make more money.

 

2. Have more activities available without charge such as aerobics. These classes used to be available for free and now they cost $10 or more.

 

3. Stop announcing everything! I can read the daily paper and don't need the cruise director to read it too me.

Improve the Internet Access speed. It is purposely made slower than dial up so they can make more money from us. The crew's internet speed is markedly faster than the passenger's!! A crew member told me and showed me how fast theirs was!!! I can handle all the fee's for service, but when something like this is occurring, I feel it is deceptive. When I pay for a service, I want it to be good service! I don't work slower so I can get paid more!!

Interesting. On the Gem last month, there were many complaints about receiving only Fox News, and nothing with a more centrist bias. We were told it was because Fox News came through the internet connection, and the other channels came through satellite, which was not available in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

 

(Leaving aside the question of how other ships are able to receive those channels in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean...)

 

I thought, well, no wonder the internet is connection is so slow, it's all being eaten up by a TV signal.

I would certainly reinstate the bubbly welcome! who would want to listen to the people who feel they've been ripped off. Celebrity still gives it, I think.

 

I would most assuredly put the cappuccino machines back in the buffets, and give it free in the main dining room. Holland America still does this in their main dining room.

 

I would reinstate the perk for balconies & minisuites that existed only for a very short period of time, of dining in a separate dining room for breakfast. There is nothing wrong with everyone going to one dining room, but the perk was wanted because of avoiding crowds! as in the buffet. And service in the main dining room for breakfast can require an hour when you don't have an hour to spare before an excursion. The alternate dining room was the solution: fewer people, faster service, a buffet table, as well (and did I mention, NO CROWD).

 

I booked two balcony cabins (one 6 months out and the other 18 months out in order to get stern BAs) when I learned of this last perk, and a month ago when we sailed the first of the two cruises, discovered that it had been discontinued. At least there were robes in the cabin as promised as a perk.
