If you were in charge of NCL...

Time for NCL to build a ship ideal for sailing out of New York year round that has a retractable glass roof over the pool area, similar to those on HAL ships.

All the above were really good - but what always mystefies me is why NCL doesn't have a pool with a retractable roof. November 2008 we were on the Gem and the pool deck was deserted. Last month on the MSC Splendida there were loads of folk in the covered pool and it was great relaxing on armchairs there.

Very good suggestions!!

After all, it was NCL and the Dawn that brought back all-year-round cruising out of New York after a very long absence during which the last ship departing New York was the QE2 on its World Cruise around New Years, and was the first ship back around April.

Being able to really get into the vacation spirit by having the sailaway party in all weather would be a great enhancement and selling point.

Besides using the magrodome to allow swimming, it is also used by opening slightly to allow poolside barbecues in inclement weather on HAL ships.

Last time I checked ( I have been on 4 NCL cruises this year) it was based on sea days not number of cruises.!!

Perhaps a call to NCl as I did will clarify things.

Not so. NCL uses number of cruises. Latitudes membership levels are Bronze after the 1st completed cruise, Silver after the 5th, Gold after the 9th and Platinum after the 14th. Here's NCL's Latitudes web page:

Freshen up itineraries by going to new ports or revisiting ones that haven't been used in a while.

I totally agree with you. I would love to do another New England/Canada next year (it would be my fourth in a row), but I would like a bit of variety. Keep the great ten day round trip from New York to Quebec City and return, but vary the intermediate ports. Substitute Newport, or Martha's Vineyard, or Gloucester, or Portland, or Bar Harbor, or Saint John, NB for the ones on the last two years.

I would also love to see a repo cruise from New York that stops in all the "colonial ports"...Philadelphia, Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, and maybe Jacksonville on the way to Miami. To satisfy the passenger services law, call at Aruba or originate the cruise in a Canadian port.

I missed my chance for a cruise like this when I didn't take the opportunity the Pride of America (US registered), offered during its repo to its home in Honolulu when new.

Same thing I put on every single survey I do for NCL:

Reward Latitudes by number of days sailed not number of cruises. I'm tired of having my 19-day and 14-day and 15-day cruises' date=' heck even my 9 and 7 day cruises count the same as the 1-nighter to nowhere cruises. Those of us who sail these longer cruises spend MUCH more money on excursions, alternative restaurants, photos, drinks, and the casino and we should be rewarded accordingly. Initially, I was very hopeful when NCL announced there would be changes to the Latitudes program as part of their 2.0 upgrades, but nothing came of that.[/quote']

So perhaps those of us who sail in Courtyard Villas should get several times the credit as those who sail in insides?

Sorry if this repeats something, I haven't read the entire thread yet, but this doesn't sound unreasonable.

RCCL does both. If you are one a cruise 9 days or longer (I believe), you receive and additional cruise credit. If you cruise in a suite, you also receive and extra credit. So on a 12 day cruise in a suite, you would actually earn 3 credits.

I agree - NCL should change their cruise credit policy, and make the change retroactive for a few years.

Celebrity also gives multiple credits for longer cruises and for suites.

I like this.... would jump up to Gold immediately, instead of in 2 more cruises. :)

Port of Toronto! Doing an "Americas Cruise".... down one coast, and back up the other.... alternate years doing Panama, and Usuaia (sp?).

Maybe you would like to cruise with some Packer players.

BTW the digital photos idea is outstanding! Imagine the savings.

With the Digital Photos, they could have slide shows before events in the theater, etc. and people can see how wonderful the pictures are and want to go order some.

I know I would buy a lot more pictures (and probably end up spending more overall) if the price was lower per picture.

Year-Round cruises from Boston, with ports of call in Bermuda, Charleston, S.C., Savanah,Ga,

Utilize the mega mega ship, Epic, for transoceanic cruises. Like the Oasis of the Seas, this ship would be a destination in itself.

Reinstate coin-op laundry rooms to all NCL ships. This would be a money maker, and a convenience as well.

Have ice cream stations poolside on all ships.

Designate some cabins on each ship for single travelers, where they will not be charged extra.

Make sure NCL receives all of the suggestions on this post.

Someone asked the Hotel Director about this in the open forum on my last cruise, and he said that NCL had been asked to shut down the self-service laundries for health reasons.

I'm not sure what the reasoning behind that might be, but that's the offical word for now.

That would be good, but I'd start by having drink stations poolside. Why have a buffet poolside but no drink station?

But, I thought you said NCL lies when you call them???

4 NCL cruises? You seemed to have been very active in a couple NCL roll calls and one Carnival. I guess you were too busy to get involved with those other 2 NCL roll calls? But, I guess if you say that you have been on 4 NCL cruises and you checked with NCL that it is indeed based on sea days and not number of cruises than that is the gospel that we should live by.

Misinformation at its' worst. Latitudes levels are based on number of cruises not number of cruise days. People would prefer it was based on cruise days.

Waiters are contstantly buzzing around trying to sell drinks. We need an icecream station, so we don't have to go into the buffet for it.

Lots of good idea so far.

I like the idea od hot items on the room service breakfast menu, even it it is limted to say 3 items.

Better training for the Customer Service staff. They all need to know the correct answer to the same question.

Crab Cakes Benedict in the MDR for breakfast at least once a cruise:D

One or two entertainment venues that open late for people who stay up late (say until 4 am)

Conditioner in the showers would be a plus. One less thing to pack.

Annoucments available in the cabins either throught the TV or a switch to turn on and off a speaker. I always have to open the cabin door to hear what they are saying.

It was on the info channel on the tv you just had to put the tv on the correct channel on the Jewel

Better hair dryers. They don't have enough power to them to dry my hair like the one at home. It takes forever and they are a bit awkward.

The one in our room on the Jewel would blow you away

That's all I got.

Oh, a dozen rooms blocked out one sailing a month for my friends.:)

an alternative to "lavender" soap/shampoo, I am allergic and hate the smell. Definately unscented in common areas.

cabins on one side of the ship for non-smokers.

If they cancel your excursion, they should give you 48 hours notice (like you have to give them) and priority tender tickets, so you can find an "on shore excursion".

Definately, make points for days sailed.

Definately NOT make a "dress code"......that's one of the main reasons we NCL.

Learn the custom regulations of other counties. i.e. canada, uk, germany (or at least have them printed for handouts.

NCL "U" something other that "alcohol and towel folding" some of us don't drink and if we make towel animals at home, they won't be special anymore. How about language lessons for the area you are travelling. Can't see the point of "tagalog" (phillipino) in the carribean.

More choices in the "murder mystery dinner" and lower costs. There was a $20. charge for a 3 minute video with little instruction and they held it in the main dining room where you couldn't here the other "suspects".

My DH says "free booze"!!!!.

There is an alternative to the Lavander in your room you just have to request it. My daughter is very allergic and our first stop when we got on the ship was a restroom. She washed her hands and before we could get on the elevator to the buffet she was turning red. I requested a change and with in 30 minutes they had bar soap for her but that doesn't solve the public areas problem. Lavander is so strong and it is an irritant to many people it should not be used in any area. When dealing with that many people something like that is as important as peanut allergies. She has had asthma attacks from heavy lavander.

We would love the non smoking and NCLU options, but would really like to see a dress code after 5 in the main dining rooms. Doesn't have to be suits & ties, but we would rather not sit next to someone who had a monkey pee on them, and then wear the same blouse to dinner......

I would be happy if they would enforce the code they have. On dress up or not night my daughter and I were in our beaded gowns and the gentleman beside of us in the MDR was wearing a tee shirt with some kind of graphic on it. The sign does say men must have a collar and ladies can't wear shorts. But in reality I think they would seat you in pj's if you showed up that way.

I completely agree with you. I've spent 33 nights/36 days cruising in the past 18 months , but could have gotten the same credit by booking three 1-2 day cruises. However, I don't live near a port and I'm military so getting leave can be tough on short notice. I have to plan well in advance so like to take advantage of a week or more off when I do get it. It would just be nice to get some kind of extra credit.

I don't recall the collared requirement, but I watched the hostess at Aqua send away both men and women wearing shorts during a very recent cruise. I'm not sure what she'd have done about long PJs. :-)

Please correct me if I am wrong but several years ago when we thought of booking a couple of one-nighters to get our cruise total up, we were told NCL does not count any cruises under three nights towards latitudes rewards...

If we had been able to book the one and two nighters, we would have reached platinum a whole lot sooner and at a lot less cost...

We are guilty of doing a b2b on the Sky so we could finally reach the number needed for platinum...

Sad to say, but one nighters count the same as 14 nighters.

That is one thing that really should be fixed. Either don't count 1 and 2 nighters or give credit for number of nights in total.

On my recent Jewel cruise there is a sign at the hostess podium in T'sars that stated no shorts and men's shirts must have collars. Didn't have to be a button up but did need a collar. Even a plain t-shirt would have been better than a grafic tee and to make matters worse the man wore the same shirt two days in a row. Probably wouldn't have noticed that if he had been in code. I just a big people watcher.
