We had an AMAZING Dream 12/26 - 1/2

balcony bound

Recommended Posts

We've only booked an Interior Room on the Dream this coming May 29th but so enjoy your review and pictures. Have read numerous negative reviews previously about the ship (smell, overcrowding, chairhogs) but even with your husbands illness you seemed to look right past any negatives and enjoyed your weeks vacation. Hopefully the final days of your cruise will still be forth coming. Appreciated your comments about your dinner table we've always enjoyed meeting new friends on our previous 5 cruises at our dining table and look forward to again come May as you did. Thank You again for all the insight, pictures, and descriptions. Best Wishes throughtout 2010.

My sincere apologies for those who waited for me to finish this review. Life took one of it’s unexpected turns, and I was unable to return to finish. But... the story does continue, we didn’t leave the ship in the middle of the day on New Year’s Eve!

This was elegant night, New Year’s Eve, and our evening for Chefs Art for dinner. We always enjoy visiting the supper clubs when they are available, and I am not sure why we don’t visit twice.

We were able to enjoy sunset on our balcony before heading up to dinner.

Tonight, dinner was excellent. I couldn’t believe how wonderful this pea soup was.

and DH said he could have the tuna tartar three times a day for the rest of his life. I was equally impressed with my spinach salad! We both had lobster, I had filet with mine.

And, who can visit the Supper Club without this?

There was a really nice young couple at the table next to us, and they spent some time chatting with us after dinner. Another couple from Georgia. I’m thinking the ship is full of Floridians and Georgians.

We had some time before the NYE celebration, so we went to the comedy show. Tonight, the show was in the Encore theater instead of the Burgundy Lounge - good thing, it was packed. Excellent show!! We got out just in time to get up to the Lido for the celebration.

I had pretty much forgotten that my camera takes video. I guess I just don’t have many reasons to take video, but I remembered tonight and here is a link if you would like to experience the flavor of NYE on a cruise. Keep in mind, I’ve never shot any video before, and if you are wondering why you are looking at the moon, it’s because there was a "blue moon" this evening.

Minerva had been waiting for us with champagne, so we headed to the aft bar for the rest of the evening. I have to say, for someone who is normally in bed by 9 on NYE, it was amazing that at 3am, I was starting to figure out we might want to head to bed!

Since we were up so late (early?) I was really needing the spa this morning. Umm, breakfast, too!

It seems that last day at sea is always one that I try to do all the things that I didn’t get around too during the week. Well, that is an impossible task on the Dream. I think I’m going to have to sail her many times in the future to feel like I finally got the whole experience she has to share. Frankly, I can’t wait till the next time!

I will admit, today was the only day that we realized there were 3800 folks on the ship. The best place for us was aft with Minerva and we spent the day easily exploring all the drinks in her repertoire.

Oh, and enjoying my favorite treat! Do not miss this wonderful chocolate cup

I felt very sad as sunset arrived, I really did not want to give up my place on this beautiful ship.

There just isn't anything like sunset (or sunrise) from your balcony at sea.

We went on to dinner and had one last wonderful meal.

This mango soup was amazing

DH enjoyed his two kinds of shrimp

And I was totally thrilled with my crab cake and cornish game hen.

I'll say again, every dish we had on this trip was wonderful. We have zero negative comments about food anywhere on the ship - Chef's Art, Main Dining Room, The Gathering - all were wonderful.

One last trip to the casino to give our donations, a walk around the ship wondering if I would be able to hold on to all the feelings I had experienced this week - the smiles and giggles. The absolute joy. I really didn't want to let go.

Packing was a rude awakening. We had too much stuff for self debarkation, so outside the door it all went. We were in zone 25 tomorrow - practically the last to disembark.

Todd was pretty rude in the morning, LOL. It was around 6am when he started the announcements. Holy moley - who wants to get off a ship at 6am????

It was a freezing cold morning in Florida and I wanted to turn the ship around and go back to the warmth. Of course, that was exactly what she was going to do - but without me.

I ran up to see Minerva one last time, and give her one last tip and our telephone numbers and address in case she ever needed help when in port.

By 9:30 we had no choice but to leave. That feeling, I do remember - ugh. We had stayed in our cabin to the end, and when they called our zone and we walked the length of the ship, she seemed like a ghost town. I thought maybe I could hide somewhere, but DH gently led me away.

My amazing dream was over, but it was a vivid dream, and I'll hold on to the memory.

I wish your husband luck.............keep up your positive attitude.

I'm glad to hear your rabbit pulled through. We lost our one year-old siamese cat six months ago to the Nutro brand pet food recall. After looking into the company I realized how many cats and dogs have become ill after eating their food...........even the food not recalled. I can't resist telling anyone with pets by chance that they are using the product...............so just wanted to share that so you may pass the word around.

Once again good luck with everything and hopefully you will be cruising again soon!

...But first, I had to have my first glimpse of BLUE water... my favorite addiction. If I could match paint to this gorgeous water, my entire house would feel like living underwater. There just isn't anything to compare.

I tried to match the color for my laundry room! I found a color called Caribbean Sky which is very nice, but still not quite right. It does make me happy when I'm in there.

Thanks for a great review- I too was a little concerned reading all the negative reviews (I think any ship has issues to work out with the crew/ship when it first starts out and I tend to ignore most of that) so wonderful to see good pictures and hear good things. We are on her in less than 50 days...can't wait.

Best of luck with the treatments - like someone else said, your positive attitude will carry you and DH a long way! ;)

Glad to hear the bunny made it through alright! I bet your husband will follow suit - good things come to those with good attitudes!!

BTW - do you have the capers? I'm trying to figure out the best night to do the steakhouse.

I do have them, but I'm one of those that removes the schedule... are you cruising western? Probably or you wouldn't have asked me. We did the steakhouse the day we were in Roatan, but only because it was NYE. If it were a non-holiday, I'd have gone to Chefs Art the day we were in Belize.

LOL, maybe if we took a water sample into Lowe's, they could match it???

The water would be clear, the blue colors are the reflection from the sky against the bottom, sorry to burst your bubble. I will admit the water is beautiful in the Caribbean.:D

Wonderful, wonderful review!! I echo what others have said regarding your positive attitude. No vacation is perfect, but it's so much nicer when any imperfections are presented in a balanced way.

Best regards to you and your husband...and your bunny. I'm a pet lover too, and I feared we were going to lose our beloved 16 year old cat right before our Sept. cruise. Thankfully, he pulled through & is better than ever!

Thank you! I'll have to say, our cruise on the Dream was pretty darn near perfect. I've started begging for the repeat!
