Pack a cooler for 7 mile beach

Is it possible to take a small collapsible cooler and hit a store for some local beers then taxi to 7 mile beach? If so, where would be a good store to go to. I don't recall seeing any convenience type stores but...I wasn't looking for them the last trip. Plan on renting a chair and hanging on the beach for hours, not really wanting to have to go up to the bar for drinks. Thanks for any help...

If you're renting a chair, you'll likely be using the facilities of one of the beach bars (washrooms, etc.) so I personally wouldn't bring a cooler and BYO in that circumstance. The bars primarily offer the free facilities in order to attract patrons, after all... :D

However, for the definitive answer as to whether it's legal or not, wait for Drew's reply...he'll know for sure...

HaHaHa!

The beach, from the edge of the water to the mean high water mark is property of the Crown. This is a narrow band from the water to the point where high tide reaches on an average day. This can be used for the public enjoyment.

Above the Crown property lies most of the beach which is actually on private property. Private property owners can set their own rules for alcohol use.

There are a few sections which are public up to the main road. Seven Mile Beach Public Beach is one such popular spot where you can carry in your own food and beverage.

For those wishing to stock a cooler please remember that grocery stores and most gas stations do not sell alcoholic beverages in Cayman. Stores selling alcohol in central George Town generally are only selling duty free items for delivery to ships.

You can make a short stop at the liquor store in the Seven Mile Shops (215 West Bay Road) for an easy and quick stock up run.
