alohadad Posted January 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2010 Just heard that the Oosterdam & Statendam will be used by the Canadian Goverment as hotel ships for their Goverment Staff during the games.

Krazy Kruizers Posted January 10, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2010 But with all the cold weather and snow we are having right now -- don;t think I want to head to Vancouver (just north of there) to some more snow and cold in February. Yeah we've had a brutal winter so far in Calgary. Haven't heard too much about bad weather in Vancouver but I can't imagine it would be great. The weather patterns aren't comparable at all. It seldom snows in Vancouver but rain is pervasive. Maybe you're thinking Whistler? I hear they're busy with the snow-making machines getting ready for the Olympics. :p:p
sandypaper Posted January 10, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 10, 2010 I can happily report from Vancouver that the weather is extremely mild right now. Lots of rain of course but nice temps. I will be sooooooo glad when the Olympics are over.....may even hide while they are on. :-)

alohadad Posted January 11, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Statendam & Oosterdam were in port together in Mazatlan on 01/05. Will always love the smaller ships.
cheggy Posted January 11, 2010 #16 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Yes they were. we were on the Statendam. we heard they are moving all the tables from lower dining room up to top and using the lower floor for ironing and pressing. I will be sooooooo glad when the Olympics are over.....may even hide while they are on. :-) I'm with you sandypaper about the Olympics. However I'll take this mild rainy weather over what we had last year. Living in Richmond that darn Speed Skating Oval is a real thorn in my side. Re the Canadian Government employees on these 2 beautiful ships, they don't deserve lobster. I'd love to see Spam or Spork for their meat choice and fish sticks for the turf. LOL;)
Juanita462 Posted January 11, 2010 #18 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Our grandson is working for security before, during and after the Olympics - they thought they were going to be billeted on the ships - guess the higher ups take priority. I agree on the food for the gov't employees - maybe pork and beans to get a taste of what the common people will be eating (more of) after the new taxes come into effect this year. weather - wet, but mild - one of my rhodo bushes is blooming - that is how mild it is. DAllenTCY Posted January 11, 2010 #19 Share Posted January 11, 2010 The Oosterdam and Statendam will be joined by the Carnival Elation to provide temporary housing for law enforcement in Vancouver. Only the Norewegian Star will provide rooms for visitors. David

AzChar Posted January 17, 2010 #23 Share Posted January 17, 2010 We just returned from a sail on the Oosterdam where they did, indeed, confirm that this ship will be used as a hotel during the winter Olympics for a period of 5 weeks. Holland America is going through a renovation/upgrade of their ships, as well.
