How to communicate with our friends during the cruise

Hello,

My wife just thought of this tonight...we're planning on going on the Carnival Pride, but I take it cell phones don't work on board, correct?

So her question is: How do we communicate with our friends (another couple in another room)? Are there phones in the rooms?

Also, what do we do if the other couple is on the deck and want to let us know where they are? Is there any way to communicate from various points on the ship?

Thanks!

There are cabin phones...just like a hotel! And, post-it notes work well, too!

The public areas on a ship aren't so huge that finding your friends will be a problem. Remember that most of the ship's space is taken up with cabins...you won't be needing to search those areas to find the others!

Make a tentative plan....Sue will be at the pool until 2, Rob will be in the casino until noon, etc.....if plans change, that's where the post-its come into play!

You'll find that after a day, everyone will pretty much know everyone elses favorite "spots"!

There aren't many "house phones" around the ship the way a hotel has (like when you get off the elevator on every floor), but post-its and the like work well.

Cell phones do work, but check with your provider for rates. Everybody's plan seems to be different, but it could be $3/minute or more. Doesn't matter if you're calling someone on the ship or back home.

Some people use two way radios to keep in touch, but they can be hit-and-miss. Also, some ships have in-room voicemail, others don't.

We travel with 2 other couples all of the time. First, just like in a hotel, there is a phone in your room which you can use to call from room to room. We generally start by calling. We also all take sticky notes with us. Let's say one of us is going to the pool, and we call and cannot find one of the other couples. We post a sticky note on our door telling them where we are (kind of like when we were in college and we posted where we were on the door of our dorm room). Generally the girls go with the girls, and the guys wind up with the guys, and even if we think we're going to different places, we bump into each other all the time. You can also pre-arrange when you're going to meet when you are together....."meet you in the Windjammer @ 2".

:)
