The NEW I Work in Port Canaveral Thread!

I am having a tough time arranging our shuttle transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral which also consists of Port Canaveral to Orlando hotel and then Orlando hotel to MCO for 6. I have tried Travelynx, no response to my emails, Beach Line, response to emails with good prices but did not return the 2 phone messages I have left with them since, Cocoa Beach Shuttle changed their prices on me by over $100 and when I questioned the price increase I was told they would check with the boss and then call me back. Waited days and no return call. Called them back and yes indeed the increase in cost was right. These are the 3 shuttles listed on post#5. Help!

Have you considered renting a van? I did this (car) in December and it was very easy. Picked up the car at MCO, straight shot to PC, then dropped everyone off at the port and I dropped off the car. The car shuttle took me to the ship. I rented through Budget and used code BCD S232000.

Thanks afcj1! I used the code and found that we can rent a van for a little over $300 for the 2 1/2 days. I would prefer a shuttle. Last time we reserved with a random company out of Houston we ended up 8 of us in a limo with no air con and a bad tire. We sat off the freeway in a sketchy neighborhood while the driver tried to fix it. When we got back into the vehicle it didn't take long to figure our someone had stepped into dog poo! It was a relief to sit in a Discount Tire for an hour. Lucky we flew in the day before our Galveston departure!

Hello everyone, First let me say I have seen forums before but this one is the best so far. What a great service! I have read this entire thread and still have not seen anything unique to my situation. I have several questions.

 

I am getting married on the Carnival Dream next spring. I am trying to find a clean hotel with transportation to the pier at a good price for my group. I found great prices on 3rd party sites (expedia, booking.com, etc). However, most do not state it includes parking for the duration of my cruise.

 

1) Does anyone know if you can book on a 3rd party website and still use the stay and sail options? Someone posted on this site the Radisson allows it but I am not sure of them since the bad reviews I have read. I am also looking at Country Inn and Suites which sounds great but they are a bit pricey if not booking through 3rd party site.

 

2)Also, being a wedding group we have priority boarding which requires us to arrive by 10:30am. Do these hotels have shuttles going that early?

 

3) I am having a hard time finding out if my non-sailing guests must pay to park at Carnival. Does anyone know about this?

First congratulations on your coming up wedding on the Dream - beautiful ship

 

One of the things I can suggest is that you can email the GM directly and they will do everything they can to answer all your questions - I thought they were on post #5 but if they aren't here are some that will help - you can explain all your concerns, questions etc and they are super good about getting back to those that write them - I do not have emails for all of them, but these are a good start - talk to them about the cost, shuttles, what they offer etc - do tell them that you received this information off the CC board so that CC also receives recognization of respect for their posters with concerns.

WOW!!! you are having some issues - I am really surprise with Travelynx and Beach Line - will have to check on that and get back to you - now here is some information on another service that is a mom and pop owned and from my understanding they are good to their promises - I know my granddaughter used them for her prom and was very pleased - the last one to make a decision and choice is yours - these that I list are just options OK?

OK need your help - Preston of psbcap first started this thread and it became a huge hit for cruisers and visitors coming to Brevard County, then in January the old thread was closed down and a new one started - on post #5, I put a lot of information that could/would help those with questions so now here is the problem - I can not go back and edit anything on post #5 and to put updates, most of the time, folks do not know they are there and to start reading through 15 pages of post, to me, can be very time consuming so here is where you come in and help make the decision.

#1 - this thread could be close and start all over again with all the new updates, but I feel it is very unfair to Preston since this has been his baby for many years, his ideas, his thoughts etc

 

#2 or just post another updated information and post it on this thread.

 

Now the decision is up to you. CC said that once anything is posted and closed, the thread can not be opened up again to edit which I can fully understand their rules and regulations so help me OK?

Shirley IMHO I would go with no. 2. You then can post updated info wthout feeling guilty about changing the thread. Peope who are really interested in finding answers to their questions usually don't mind another moment or two of research or reading. Hope this helps but of course you must do what you feel is best. I would go with your 2nd option also, Shirley! I don't know about others, but when I go to a really LONG thread... I usually work from the bottom in hopes of finding what I want to know that is the most recent. So, I would suggest just posting an update to your #5 post whenever you think it's necessary!

 

Oh, and thanks for the info on Exec Limo.... I now have them booked for September.... and it's about half the price (for our group) than the Carnival shuttle!!

I have never sailed out of Port Caneveral but will be doing so in August 2010 on RCL Freedom of the seas. From looking at the port website there are several terminals both on the North side and South side. Is there a fixed terminal that Freedom of the Seas uses and if so does anyone know which one it is?

UPDATE:

Please be aware to the driving while here in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral for the city has now installed cameras at the traffic lights and the fines start at $150.00 for running the lights etc.

That fine could put a dent on your cruising $$$$$$$ ;-))

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

 

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST

None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. the suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard views. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.

Due to the construction of high rise condo's, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunately none have a wide open view of the port any more.

The difference with the Wakulla is that they offer huge 2 bedroom suites with full kitchen.

Large heated pools, bar-b-que grills for their guest.

Traveling to and from Orlando (MCO) airport and to the port

 

When you exit the airport you will merge onto the Highway 528 (also called Beachline 528) and travel about 45 miles to Cape Canaveral. There is one toll to pay which is $1.25. There are no restaurants along the way until the highway ends and becomes a 4-lane surface street. Travel time: 45 mins.

All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis & Enterprise, all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until the afternoon.

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.

They also now have beach supplies such as sunglasses, sun lotion etc and working toward getting more supplies on hand.

Manatee Sanctuary Park located at 701 Thurm Blvd which is off West Centeral Street - this is located right between Zackery's and Traxx (Zackery's is right next door to the Radisson) - park hours are from 7AM to dark. You can walk to it from the Raddison: 2 long blocks approx 10 mins walking, but you do have a sidewalk and the walk is nice althought not shady. There is no cost and it does have a super nice and clean rest room, places to sit out of the sun. Best time for manatees: early morning or just before dusk

Jetty Park - 397 Jetty Park Drive, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920

Jetty Park is at the beginning or ending of the channel where all the ships go out. There is a $5 per car charge to get in, but well worth it. It has nice bathrooms, showers, place to eat, fish, walk and a super nice beach. It does have shade and camp grounds also. Directions: Take the Beachline (520) from the airport due East. After you pass the cruise ship port get into the left lane and slow when it says to 45mph (police fav. hiding place) the road turns into a city street with a RateTrac store on your right. Look to the left at the big white bldg with the blue roof and turn left between there and McDonalds. Go to the traffic light (2 blocks) and turn left. Go to the traffic light (3 Blocks) and turn right.

Their new building opened March 20, 2009 and it is beautiful and very interesting. It is a 2 story high museum.

I'm not sure if you have contacts at the businesses you feature but I've been reading some scathing reviews of the Radisson lately. Old..dingy rooms..etc. alot of pax are saying that the photos on their site in no way represent what the true property looks like.:eek:

 

I understand that people can be subjective about things but wanted you to be aware.
