Island Dog Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Has anyone ever tried to get a cab from the gate leading out of Princess Cays. Lighthouse Point is beautiful and is only a short distance from the complex but too far to walk.

Worn out mailman Posted January 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Has anyone ever tried to get a cab from the gate leading out of Princess Cays. Lighthouse Point is beautiful and is only a short distance from the complex but too far to walk. Yes, Dog :) I too am curious about non excursion options to get away from the comotion that is Princess Cays. Something tells me though that Princess would want to discourage any private entities from drawing people away from their area, since they make money there. Toto2Kansas Posted January 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Never saw anything resembling a cab at PC. I agree, have never seen or read of anyone catching a taxi at Princess Cays.
kywildcatfanone Posted January 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2010 I'm not aware of any cabs at Princess Cays. The only cars I see are the ones owned by the locals who sell their wares there... Mike
Marlin girl Posted January 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2010 I agree, have never seen or read of anyone catching a taxi at Princess Cays. A few years ago, we walked to the edge of the property, an old dirt road(visible on Google Earth). There is was a guard there and a gate. He was able to call us a cab which we took to a marina, went fishing, and caught a blue marlin and several yellow fin tuna. Boat brought us back to Princess Cay's little marina and used VHF to ask them permission to do so. It was very easy though.

rpach10115 Posted January 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2010 You know, I've been to princess cays 4 times. It does get old after a while. I have often wondered if there was anything else to do in Eleuthera outside princess cays. Anybody have any ideas?
Island Dog Posted January 18, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks Marlingirl. We will do just that. Walk to end of road and have a guard call us a cab. Thanks for the info! Happy cruising!
lake5298 Posted January 18, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Getting Around It's virtually impossible to get lost on Eleuthera -- there's only one road that meanders along the entire length of its snake-shaped form, and you'll stray from it only very rarely. Most visitors take a taxi only right after arriving at the airport or when they have to return to that airport to go home. Taxis meet all incoming flights and are also available at ferry docks. Because cabbies are independent operators, you can't call one central number. Your hotel staff can summon a taxi for you, but you may have to wait a while, so plan ahead. Know, too, that taxis on Eleuthera are battered and expensive; the cost to haul you and up to two companions plus your luggage from North Eleuthera airport, in Eleuthera's far north, to Cape Eleuthera, near the island's southern tip, is around US$170 (£85), and it's a long, monotonous ride. WeBeGone Posted January 18, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 18, 2010 There are no taxis but Princess has added a shore excursion called "Taste of Eleuthera". We did it last month and it was wonderful !! We were on a small air conditioned bus (20), and had a funny, knowledgable, and well spoken tour guide and driver. The guide told us lots of history as we drove along the only road. We stopped at a local primary school and visited with the kids. We stopped in a town for photos and a church visit. Stopped in another town to visit the new town computer center located in an old mission. Stopped at the "bottomless" hole. Went to a beach restaurant for a buffet lunch with conch salad demonstration and congo line dancing. Will we do it again? Probably not as once was enough. However, having been to Princess Cays so many times, it was a refreshing and pleasant day. I highly suggest it if one more day on Princess Cay is not your thing.
