Blue Lagoon in Nassua?

If so, I think the title of "Private Island Getaway" is misleading.

Blue Lagoon in Nassua IS very beautiful and I would go there again in a heartbeat. It was my very first excursion when I started cruising and it lived up to my expectation as to what a Caribbean island was supposed to be all about. White sand, turquise water gently slapping the beach, palm trees with hammocks, steel band music in the back ground, with a frosty adult beverage in my hand.

Having said all that, it's far from being isolated private island. This same island also has the dolphin excursion, the stingray excursion, bannana boats, parasailing, etc, etc. It's a busy place.

We visited in January of this year. I highly recommend it.

My only suggestion is to do it on your own.

Very easy to get to the ferry terminal, and MUCH cheaper than the ship or even online prices.

Have a great time!

We are sailing on the Carnival Triumph next month and would love to do the Blue Lagoon beach day; anyone know how far it is from where the ship docks to where you board for Blue Lagoon? Walking distance? anything else we should know?

Thanks!

It's about a 5 minute walk from where the excursion group meets at the dock (right where you get off the ship) to the boat that takes you to the Blue Lagoon. Everyone walks together as a group. You will be issued a wrist band before taking the walk.

The Blue Lagoon is a great place to swim, snorkel, explore or relax. I'd go back there in a heartbeat! Food is available and there's a gift shop as well. If you get off the boat quickly you can claim one of the naturally shaded spots under the palm trees that line part of the shoreline. If you don't get one of those spots, there are umbrellas available.

If you book through carnival do you still get the use of the free mats and noodles? Also the carnival tour says it is from 12:30 to 5:00 but I am reading that the last ferry out is at 4pm - does anyone have info on this? I am tossed up on whether to book directly or go through carnival.

Thanks!

I'm still waiting to here from them. Tomorrow morning it will be day 2. I have tried to submit reservations on their website 3 times since last Friday and they said they haven't received any of them. So after many emails I finally just called to book and she gave me a confirmation # but no email yet!:confused::confused:

We took the Blue Lagoon Beach Day Excursion through NCL at the end of June of this year. Because I had difficulty walking because of a recent knee injury, we were told to meet the group at a specific location at the Nassau terminal building at the end of the piers. We took a free bus to that point. Well, the group never came through this way and we waited about a hour and a half before someone could tell us how to proceed. We finally got to the Blue Lagoon with another tour group from Carnival (not NCL) as they left without us. By the time we got to the island there were no chairs, no hammacks, and it was extremely crowded. Nothing like we expected at all. We arrived there around 12:30 pm. We should have been there at 10:30 -11 the latest. Be very careful in booking your excursions.

Just a quick thing here, I booked a beach excursion for myself and my mom for Sept 28. I did this back in June. I recieved confirmation and they took the money. On Aug 20th I recieve an email saying, sorry the beach will be closed that day can you do Monday or Wends. We are in port only on Tuesday.

I called customer service and the person I spoke with said that yes the beach is closed for maintenance and that we cannot go. However he did inform me that if we booked with the cruise ship we could go:confused: Its about 30+ more I believe with the ship, but that's neither here nor there. Why can the ship go but not regular reservations??? I cancelled. (Ohh and I actually had to ask for a refund before the guy hung up on me, he never mentioned me getting my money back) Then stared to panic because I was not sure what we were going to do. Figured it all out so at least that is good.

Now I went on my roll call yesterday and a fellow passenger said he is going to Blue Lagoon??? I called and they said no the beach is open, you cancelled your reservation. Low and behold here is the story. I was told that they knew the place was going to be closed when they took my reservation. Then I was told my reservation showed 9/23 and that is why I would not be able to go. I kept sayingit shows on every correspondance 9/28. Not until I sent the email from them back to them did they see the error they made, it was 9/28 all along.... Then they say the beach just re opened yesterday.

I know I may be ranting and raving here but I think that is really poor customer service. Needed to get this out there. I am normally the type of person that goes with the flow and does not get phased by things but I am really annoyed by this....

Maybe this was a 1 in like 1000 things but if I am ever in Nassau again, I will not be going there....

I understand your fustration. The cruise ships book exclusives with many of the venders in the Carribean. It seems differant in diff parts of the world. In your case if I understand they had you down for the wrong date. If still interested I would have negotiated a better price because of the error/hassles. We have never been there but it does seem to get good ratings.

It's like canceling a cruise because of poor pre-cruise reservations but than the ship and crew are great (had that happen before on Celebrity).

What did you decide to do for the day?

Hi Rene,

It is Graymom. I am the one yesterday that said I am going to Blue Lagoon with my DH, and DS (6). I agree with you. I have called multiple times and gotten multiple different answers. Last time I talked to them, yesterday, they said the beach was closed but since they had a request they would open it. It really confused me. They gave me a reservation # but never asked for any time of payment information. Blew me away. I really don't know if we are booked or not or if the beach is open or not. CRAZY stuff going on there.

We are planning on going over to the Paradise Island Terminal and trying to go to Blue Lagoon but are not certain what is really going to happen.

Rene, I am going to try and contact you outside of the post and perhaps we can exchange emails. We are going to be on the same cruise as you and perhaps we could team up.

HAve a great two (2) days till we sail.

Not Rene, but if I was in your situation I would call your Cruise Shorex and find out if they are offering the excursion (or maybe another ship docked that day is offering it?). It sounds like they could (possibly) be playing games with you if they have a pending deal with your (or another) cruise line. I am more blunt and would call, ask for a superviser, and ask what is going on.

Well the current plan is to go to the zoo, make our way back to Lighthouse beach, then do the walking tour of downtown.... back to the boat for dinner then Atlantis for the Casino.... Unless something changes at this point!

From what I have read there are days when Blue Lagoon is closed to the public, but allows cruise ship guests(who book with their ships) to be on the island. This keeps the crowds down long enough to clean the beach, etc. with minimum ecological impact to the island. We are booking thru our cruise because we will be there on a day when the island is "closed". Yes we pay more, but it sounds so beautiful we really don't want to miss this island, since "Blackbeards Island" is no longer listed as a Carnival excursion.

I tried to book a sea lion excursion directly with Blue Lagoon only to find out that they are all booked the day The Epic will be docked. Blue Lagoon mentioned that I should contact the cruise ship as many of the reservations are held thru The Epic. I did that and even booking through Epic it's completely booked. I then contacted Atlantis to do the sea lion excursion there, but the times they offer it are before our ship even docks so it's not an option.

I then tried booking the dolphin swim at blue lagoon (where they push your feet and you "fly" through the water) and that is also booked completely full.

I ended up reserving the regular dolphin encounter where you just 'hug' them because there was nothing left. I asked Blue Lagoon if I could go on a waiting list to get the sea lion excursion, but they don't take a waiting list so we're out of luck. It's a little disappointing, but I'm sure it'll still be a ton of fun, just kinda had our hearts set on the sea lion thing..... wish there was a way to still do it...

My advice is to book early!!!
