can cruising win over a vegas nut?

wife and I have been to vegas 8 times and I am still yearning to return to vegas after being there only 6 months ago for 10 nights!

we are not huge gamblers, just slots and enjoy sitting outdoors to dine, the shows and the whole atmosphere.

we are hoping this first cruise on carnival will win us over as there are so many ships and destinations to explore!

has anyone else that loves the vegas experience been won over by their first cruise? oh by the way we read that slots are tighter on cruise ships but we sure haven`t come home rich from vegas!:)

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you like cruising. The first time I cruised a few years ago, I was sure I wouldn't enjoy it, but I fell in love with it.

Check out the piano bars - they're a lot of fun. I loved the late night comedians. Some shows were great, some not so great. On the slots, I won enough to keep me playing without spending a ton of money.

Have fun! Kathy

Well I have always wanted to go to Vegas but I haven't gotten there yet. We did our first cruise in 2002 and I am now a cruise addict! lol

I am pretty sure that by the sounds of the things you enjoy you will very much enjoy your cruise! Happy sailing!

yes I think you are all correct,

sometimes you can get in a rut and keep going back to the same places you enjoy and not give something new a chance.

some of the new ships look incredible with all the entertainment and dining options although surcharges seem to be more common on some. still cheaper than a lot of restaurants in vegas.

Gerry, I have only been to Vegas once, and I couldn't imagine spending 10 nights there, unless I had unlimited resources. We're not huge gamblers either, but we found that everything was designed to steer us into the casinos. I love the great outdoors, and yearned for a simple park bench to sit on and watch the world go by.

By contrast, a cruise can be a tremendous value, and is much more laid-back. You can indulge in games of chance if you wish, or simply sit by the pool and relax. And the best part is that the scenery is constantly changing.

Of course, you won't know if it's for you until you try it. Have fun!

Cruising may not entirely replace your love of Legas as they are different experiences but if you do enjoy Vegas I suspect you will enjoy cruising. We love Vegas although Atlantic City is closer to us so we visit there more often, but we also LOVE cruising.

Shows and entertainment on ships is not of the same caliber as Vegas so don't expect that same caliber but you feel similarities just remember to keep your expectations in check. At times, people watching on Carnival can be almost as entertaining as in Vegas;):D

Compared to Vegas think very small casino space but it's there for your enjoyment and we always enjoy our time at the slots in the casino. Rarely a free drink or any other comps unless you are a big gambler or manage a big win and become friends with the casino host. Slots are tight but one can still come up a winner. I was the pround winner of $11,000 on one of our Carnival cruises. :D But like Vegas, not going to happen often. :(

I see you've decided upon an inside cabin. Many people love their inside cabins. I have to have at least an oceanview as I need that view to the outside world but we LOVE our balcony. DH has become addicted to them when cruising. We love spending our downtime sitting on the balcony watching the world go by. Several mornings during our cruises we go to the buffet to get our breakfast and bring it back to our balcony to eat and enjoy. For us our balcony adds a lot to our overall cruise experience.

Hope you enjoy your first cruise and good luck in the casino!:)

I live in Vegas, Not into the gambling. I got the cruising bug after my first cruise on the Pride of America to the Hawaiian Islands. Looking forward to the SOuther or Eastern Caribbean Islands in July. Not sure which ship yet. Any ideas fellow cruisers?

I too am a Vegas nut! I went to Vegas every year for about 5 years before i went on my frist cruise. But i must confess that cruising is wonderful. More relaxing to me and as you said you get to see many different destinations and still get your gambling and entertainment. I think you will enjoy it and will come to enjoy BOTH destinations as I do.

Southern on the Serenade of the Seas! Both itineraries are great and the ship is wonderful!

Maybe you'll be like me and love both.

My DD and I go to Vegas several times a year, and I also cruise 1-2 times a year.

Both are wonderful vacations, and each is unique. A plus for cruises is that most ships have casinos, so you get the best of both on cruises.

Two completely different experiences. Hard to compare.

Slots are tight on the ships. Much more so than Vegas. And there are many fewer to choose from and prime times you won't get one when you want.

Head for a glitzy ship like some from Royal Carib and Carnival.

Or try a classy (unsnobby) cruiseline, like Princess. Glitz isn't everything, and is sometimes too much so, and if you frequent Vegas, you already have your fill of that!! LOL

And slots are tight everywhere - including in Vegas now. Tourism is down in Vegas, and while there are some real good deals on hotel rates, the slots are still tighter than they were a year or two ago. We were there in December, and they were TIGHT!!!

I love both. Usually a mid-stakes gambler in some of the older places like downtown. I go to Vegas 2-3 times a year and try to cruise twice a year. When I go solo to either, I set a generous budget for food in Vegas, but I don't have to worry about that on a cruise. I do like being able to change casinos if I have a bad run or my host can't get me comped on RFB. I think the cruise will be a nice change of pace. I meet some of the greatest people each time I cruise at the casinos.

DH and I used to go to LV at least once a year and got married there several years ago, but have been cruising for the last 4 years and haven't been to LV since (even tho we discussed going again soon). We also have a single friend who used to go more than we did and he's been only on cruises for the last couple of years and even commented recently that cruising has replaced LV for him.

I agree with these posts. I love vegas & cruising. I was a vegas every year gal and then my brother & his wife tried to talk me into a cruise. I wanted to try it but could i really not go to vegas for a whole year or more?! (can only afford 1 trip a year) as luck would have it i am able to go to vegas on my employers dime every year for a conference and do my cruise every year also!! But if i had to choose? I would choose cruise every time. Much more relaxing and still get your slot & show fix.

Have been to Vegas several times. Have cruised several times.

I always enjoy a visit to Vegas and I enjoy cruising.

I think you will like cruising. If not Vegas will be there for you. You can't lose except at the slots perhaps.
