Personal Choice dining - table for two likelihood?

We're booked on the Grand from SOuthampton in May. I'm not anti-social (honest!) but the idea of eating with different people every night really doesn't appeal to us (holidays are the times we get some time together really). We're on personal choice, will there be enough tables for two to ensure we can dine as a couple each night?

I suppose we like to eat anywhere between 7:30 - 8:30 in the evening and would be happy to make a standing reservation if this made the dining option easier.

 

Does anyone have any experience of this?

We always do Anytime Dining with Princess and have never had a problem getting a table for two. Even when we have traveled with other there has not been a problem getting our group together.

 

Our experience with reservations has varied from ship to ship. Even without a reservation, we have never waited more than 20 or 30 minutes for a table.

We cruised for 10 days on the Star Princess April 2009 and found 3 out of the 4 times we requested a table for 2 it was available. For one of the formal nights we made a reservation that morning for 7 PM. Remember that there are 2 Anytime diningrooms so if one is filled and there is a waiting line try the other. We never had to wait but were always ok with sharing a larger table if a table for 2 wasn't available.

We had a different experience on the CB 1/10/10. Could not make a reservation for only 2; waited at least 30 minutes for a table; then, we barely finished ordering before our first course was served. Very rushed. We asked a waiter how many times they turned the tables for 2 and he told us 4. Felt like a second-class citizen. Others on our cruise were annoyed by this as well. My suggestion - are you listening, Princess?!? - is to use either the Coral or Island dining rooms for 2's and 4's only. It's back to traditional for us.

The purpose of anytime is to walk up and get a table. Clearly the staff were following proper procedure by not allowing you to make a res.

We have never had a problem getting a table for 2 with Princess. In our past experiences they have always been situated in a row and very close to the other 2 person tables, not real private.

That was our situation on the Sapphire, which has 4 smaller dining rooms. Most of the tables for 2 were up against the wall, and felt more like tables for 8. However, on the Star, they use two larger dining rooms for Anytime Dining, and the tables for 2 were much more private.

When we travel alone we like tables for 2 also-usually find that they are readily available if arriving at the dining room early (or presumably late).

Had PC dining and table for two was available every night. It was the only cruise we ever did this on as it was a stressful couple of weeks pre cruise. We asked for the same table every night, liked the waiter and bus boy, and our wish was granted!!
