esther e Posted February 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2010 We've been on several Norwegian fjord cruises with several lines. It was probably one of the top 3 cruises we ever did. If you love scenery, you will be in for a big treat. :)
OrpingtonT Posted February 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2010 Saw the new brochure and this is listed, is it new or has anyone taken it before? Will be a new Regent cruiser..Maybe similar to Oceania which I ve taken and loved. I haven't seen the itinerary for the cruise you mention, but I took the Fjords cruise in the summer of 2009 and it was superb. From Copenhagen to well inside the Arctic Circle and back to Copenhagen, calling at Gerainger Fjord, Flaam, Bergen, Trondheim, Lofoten Islands, Alesund and Oslo (not necessarily in that order). Our cruise was Capt Dag's Homecoming and we called at his home village and were all invited to his home, a memorable day. As Esther says, if you love superb scenery you cannot go wrong. Wendy The Wanderer Posted February 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2010 I assume you're looking at this year, right? I don't see a fjords trip listed in 2011.
Island Cruiser Posted February 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We did the Dag homecoming in 2004 the first time he did it. Everything about the cruise was superb. One of the best we have taken. On this cruise we spent the extra bucks for an aft cabin to better appreciate the scenery. Great investment! We wouldn't do that for most itineraries, but well worth the extra bucks for this one. I booked expecting the Dag stop to be, at best, hokey. It was magnificent. Beautiful little village. The villagers surrounded the ship in small boats as she sailed in to the harbor and anchored. The high school band was in uniform and playing as the tenders reached the small village pier. The villagers awaited at the end of the pier to serve samples of their wonderful fish soup. Champagne and snacks was served by the crew at Dag's home overlooking the village and harbor. While this was happening, the band and other locals were hosted on board Voyager for lunch and a ship tour. At the end of a most memorable day the village boaters again escorted Voyager out to sea waving flags and cheering with gusto. What an end to a perfect cruise! Book it. Rare RachelG Posted February 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We were on the fjords cruise in summer 2009 with Orpington and his lovely wife. It is amazing--probably our favorite cruise to date. Beautiful scenery everywhere you look, good hiking, and of course, a great ship.

cruiseluv Posted February 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2010 We did it in 2005 on Navigator. It was slightly different as we didn't go Dag's hometown (he was not the Captain) , it left from Reykjavik and ended in Copenhagen. Other than that it has very similar ports. To date it is my preferred cruise. We were blessed with beautiful weather, which can make a big difference. It doesn't seems as if they are offering it in 2011. OrpingtonT Posted February 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2010 It doesn't seems as if they are offering it in 2011. This year, 2010, also looks a bit different. The Captain's homecoming is not included but the cruise goes even further north to Longyearbyen, home to polar bears. Should be spectacular.
