Buying alcohol in duty free on board to my room

I know it's a dumb question. But has anyone ever greased the cashier in the duty free shop so that they could carry a purchased alcohol bottle right to you room without having to wait til the last night on the cruise?

I really cannot imagine any cashier on the ship would take the risk. Supervisors and security cameras would likely notice and result in job termination and fines, for what --$10 or 20 you would throw their way!

On RCCL I was actually good friends with the cashier because I knew him from back home and he wasn't allowed to do it because of inventory and surveillance issues. Security on a ship is CIA style. They know more about what you're doing than you do. It's shocking.

Allowing you to take a bottle with you is not worth loosing a job over no matter how much you tried to bribe him with. And yes your post does sound very slimey.:mad:

It's neither a dumb nor slimey question. It's a question and I don't think it deserves an insult.

Interestingly, when we were on Celebrity on a Southern Caribbean cruise in December, we just brought our alcohol onto the ship with no problem. We'd bought bottles to give as gifts, but that never even came into question. I guess it depends upon the cruise line. However, on Princess, they took our bottles away when we got on board. Guess they 'gotta' make a buck. Doesn't matter to us, as we're not big drinkers.

We had no problems at all on P & O last year, not sure is anything has changed since last Nov though. There was a menu for bottles etc actually in the room, our cabin steward got us a litre of Bacardi for £11.

 

I brought a few beers in port also and carried them on in open sight, that was also no problem. RCL used to let you buy a bottle in the shop onboard and just pay a few dollars in tax extra, I think that stopped in 2002 though. Now its definetly a no go.

Somehow, in your zeal to answer the question, you entirely missed the question. The OP never asked about buying booze in port, he asked about the Gift Shop. So, before you start making comments---perhaps you should read the question.

 

PS I do have to agree that it's not slimy, but you still missed the whole point.

I bought Rum in Columbia and carried it to my room. There was no one at the security check to take it. The screeners told me to take it to my room.

Were you planning to use KY jelly or Petroleum jelly to grease the cashier? KY is water soluble and easier to clean up! :D

 

As mentioned below, they keep tight control on their inventory including observation cameras, etc. Any cashier that tried this would be looking for a new job almost immediately. Don't try it.
