i went on inspriration in march of 09 and we stayed in a porthole room. they are about the same size as an interior and are plenty big for two people. the ship we were on you could sit up in the window area and look out through the portholes.

you can check carnivals website for exact stateroom sizes.

We were just on the Fascination in a porthole room (R17). This is the first time we have not been in a regular oceanview, and we had just as much space as in the oceanview. There is a huge space where the portholes are--plenty of room to store extra stuff, or climb up and sit if you want to look out. We loved the this cabin and would definitely do it again.

We booked a porthole connecting to an oceanview for next January. Since the porthole room slepps 2, DH and I will take that one and the kids will be in the connecting quad. From what I can tell on all the sites, it's the same size as an oceanview yet the price of an interior. I've searched and found another thread on here about the porthole rooms the day I booked our cruise. They had lots of photos. Do a quick search and see. It was enlightening.

I was on the Fascination in December and we had a porthole. If you want to see some pictures of the room, they are in the albums links below. I believe it's the second link.

The room was the same size and the windows were neat but it made me really sick when the water was rough because the water was actually slapping the side of the ship, making quite a loud noise. And I was able to see sea spray washing past the windows.. bleck!!

I was in M10

check the price difference between these port hole cabins and the inside cabins that are directly across the front of the ship.

Serene, there are no OVs directly across the front of a Fantasy class ship.

OP if you didnt see pictures that other poster said were in his link, I have some I can post. insides and OVs on this ship are all 185 s.f. so they should all be the same size.

I think I'm the only one that did NOT care for them! ..lol

Close the curtains?? Then its the same as a regular inside. One big point for me was I pay the same for a PT on Empress deck as a inside on Riveria deck. All the PTs are the same price, for all 4 decks on a Fantasy class ship.

Im much rather be on Empress deck than the bottom deck in a inside 4A (fore or aft, not even a mid ship location which you have to pay for a 4B to get).

The real kicker for me is that the Port Hole I booked on my upcoming Dream Cruise is that it can be a connecting room to the Ocean View that is right next door! The price difference was unreal!

The PT cabins on the Dream are larger than 185 sq. ft. They list as 220 sq. ft.

We have done an Interior and and Ocean View. I believe the Port Hole to be the best of both worlds. No wonder they are considered one of Carnival's best kept secrets!

Yes, the PTs on anything other than a Fantasy class ship, used to be 5A, a OV category, so thats why they are 220 s.f. On Fantasy class the OVs are 185 s.f., so the PTs are still the same size as a OV.

Carnival just demoted the PTs from 5As last year

  • 2 weeks later...

I had just booked a 4A on the Elation in April a couple of days ago and today I noticed that the PT cabins were available at the same price. I called Carnival up and asked if I could switch from my Rivera deck 4A to the PT cabins up a couple of decks, The customer service specialist said I could but that the PT cabins were a downgrade from the 4a. As the PT cabins used to be 5a's I don't see how it could be a downgrade from a 4a. I took the pt and will enjoy the sunlight and view. I think see was a little confused myself!
