Does Greece use the Euro?

For now, the rest of Europe has allowed Greece be a part of the "euro family", but that is part of what is in question right now. You will see some other posts on the major financial problems that are now facing the Greek government with its high debt and big spending. Lots of riots there this week over proposed cuts in salaries and higher taxes. You can read more with other posts on this board.

Yep. Greece has a big government, strong government unions (and many other unions), and has done a lot of deficit spending to pay for those union benefits. Now that the government has been pressured by the EU to bring their spending under control the government has proposed reducing spending and increasing taxes. Sound a lot like where the USA will be within the next 5 years.

Thanks so much for answering. I am looking into going in 2011. Hope all will still be okay there.

YES, with 2011 as your target date, you have some time. For the next few months, things will be a little "tense" as they work these things out. Tourism is big, big as a key part of their overall economic picture. They know that if this "stuff" goes on too long, it will hurt their economy even more.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Hank did say it well. Sad, but true!!! Let's hope for better, but you can only go on so long spending so much more than what comes in.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
