Should Aft Wraps Receive Priority Boarding Perc?

Is the perk just getting on the ship sooner, or is there others?

There are a bunch of other perks such as free laundry, free admission to blackjack tournament, own line at customer service desk and some others.

There has been talking from John about making some changes to platinum but so far nothing has happened.

High anxiety can take over in some people. I am very anxious on boarding day, so to get to the port at 10:30 and be peacefully enjoying lunch at noon (even if I have to set my carry on bag down on the ground next to me) is a comfort. I'd rather do that than twiddle my thumbs in the hotel lobby after a checkout time of 11 where I'd be sitting with ALL of my luggage and dining on a granola bar from the vending machine.

:)

And I'd rather spend my morning having a leisurely breakfast, picking up any last minute items, and then making to the port on my own schedule. I've spent enough time twiddling my thumbs while sitting with all my luggage in a terminal to know it's not for me. ;)

So the real debate is, breakfast on land vs. lunch on board! lol. :)

Maybe they should make 1A Portholes have instant VIP status. Using the OPs logic, they always sell out quickly and they have a great ocean view. But we all know that is never going to happen. So I will just have to wait until I have earned the distinction of being awarded VIP status the old fashioned way. Looking forward to the laundry perk and the free slot tournament. :p

I guess her question should have been, should the aft wraps be considered suites.

What am I missing here?? I thought aft wraps were suites. We do not qualify for premium status but booked an aft wrap and we even have "VIP" on our Funpass.

I'll edit this - Never mind. I just looked at a bunch of deck plans and it appears that on some ships, the aft wraps are suites and on other ships, they are not. We'll be on the Spirit.

but a first time cruisers could book a suite and get priority boarding.

ive been paraphrased, didn't hurt a bit, thanx

certainly don't want to be the one to let the cat outta the bag on the wraps & I can't wait to set foot on that huge balcony.:)

i need to budget to feed my ever-growing travel habit, so I may be more cost conscious than most here...

jmo if paying X amount of $s for an aft that equals or surpasses what the suite cost, it's fair to wonder why afts don't get the preboard too. If the 1-A's start costing the same as the wraps, im going to be priced out of the market.;)

I was thinking the same thing.

I have a 9C wrap on the Triumph on the 29th and I paid $899 PP (went as high as $1024 PP before they sold out). The former cat 11 suites were only $20 more PP. I think they should be added to VIP based on the fact that Carnival now puts them in the same price range. However to be honest Carnival VIP is really meaningless.

I have to disagree with meaningless. On one cruise, the Carnival Dream, there were over 600 Platinum members when we sailed, so yes that time not worth much. However, every other trip, perks meant alot. In tender ports, we were escorted to first available tender and that meant we could book our own excursions and still get off early. Last trip sailing out of New Orleans, we arrived around noon and bypassed the line and boarded in less than 30 minutes. Others that arrived at the same time that did not have "VIP" boarding, took about 90 minutes or more. So, for me it isn't first on board, it's just avoiding lines.

In answer to the original question, my answer would be "no". The number of platinum guests is growing quickly and adding additional "VIP" categories will eventually make those perks meaningless.

Correct, we only cruise in wraps if the ship has them. The aft wrap on the Spirit is a Suite with all the goodies like whirl pool bath etc. Love the Spirit, we had cabin 6260 Alaska 08. Our Splendor cabin is a 9C wrap which is not a suite.

I don't think they should. Platinum status and V.I.P. boarding should be earned not bought. JMHO

Matt

im all for rewarding customer loyalty, however...

a 1st timer can book a suite and get the pre-board, which in my book is buying vs VIP-earned status (+ all the other percs they rightfully receive).

interesting re some ships afts designated suites, wonder which ones & why?

Your steward will let you know. Those that tip when they get down into steerage get the prime pumping times. ;)

Platinum status is a reward for loyal repeat customers. VIP boarding is just one of many perks you are eligible to receive as a Platinum guest.

The OP did not ask if aft wrap bookings should receive Platinum status, only if they should receive VIP boarding status like suite bookings do.

As it is now, it appears that suite bookings are given VIP boarding staus because suites are less plentiful and cost more than lower category cabins.

However, booking one of the even less plentiful aft wraps that costs as much or more than a suite, you are not eligible for VIP boarding status. How is that equitable?

In my opinion it is not. If the cost is the same or more, aft wrap bookings deserve VIP boarding just as much as suite bookings do.

However, I do NOT think aft wrap bookings should receive any other perks until they reach Platinum status.

My two cents.

As long as you ignore the rest of my post, your answer is reasonable.

Wow, forgot to pack the sense of humor?

It's not a suite. Regardless of how much you spend on it, it's still not a suite (except for the ships where it is a suite).
