Or is that something that we can ask John to do for us?

I'm sure if you demand it of him and his blog thingy he'll take care of you.

I will do like the others. Compliment John on something and then KINDLY ask for the special favor...I would like the 6AM spot so i can then go and RESERVE my chair by pool while i go take a nap from all the hard work. I will THANK John of course in advance..And maybe send a liitle cash to ASSURE my request..

Platinum status is a reward for loyal repeat customers. VIP boarding is just one of many perks you are eligible to receive as a Platinum guest.

The OP did not ask if aft wrap bookings should receive Platinum status, only if they should receive VIP boarding status like suite bookings do.

As it is now, it appears that suite bookings are given VIP boarding staus because suites are less plentiful and cost more than lower category cabins.

However, booking one of the even less plentiful aft wraps that costs as much or more than a suite, you are not eligible for VIP boarding status. How is that equitable?

In my opinion it is not. If the cost is the same or more, aft wrap bookings deserve VIP boarding just as much as suite bookings do.

However, I do NOT think aft wrap bookings should receive any other perks until they reach Platinum status.

My two cents.

well put:)

Wow, forgot to pack the sense of humor?

It's not a suite. Regardless of how much you spend on it, it's still not a suite (except for the ships where it is a suite).

a suite by any other name would be still be sweet;)

Believe me, I fell off the watermelon truck plenty long enough ago to know that life isn't fair. :p

I did not start a thread saying that aft wraps should get VIP boarding...I just gave my opinion to the OP's question and my reasons for my opinion.

I suppose to avoid the tone  of your and Lemur's responses, (maybe more by now; I am sure y'all are not the only ones who feel the way you do ;)) I should have just stated "That is not equitable" rather than asking the rhetorical question "How is that equitable?".

Mea culpa.

To you and the others who disagree with my opinion, I respect that.

Happy cruising to all. :)

.....wraps on the Miracle are listed as VS and wraps on the Freedom are listed as 9C. Haven't been on a Conquest class ship yet so I don't know why it is like that from first hand knowledge.

wasiii

The wraps on the Spirit class.. are suites... on all other classes of ships that have aft wraps they are just 9C's.. they don't compare to the suites;)

im all for rewarding customer loyalty, however...

a 1st timer can book a suite and get the pre-board, which in my book is buying vs VIP-earned status (+ all the other percs they rightfully receive).

interesting re some ships afts designated suites, wonder which ones & why?

it depends on the layout of the ship and cabin. On the Triumph, the cabin was just a regular cabin that was shaped like a triangle and had a huge balcony around it, I think it was an 8F. On the Pride it was a true suite, with multiple rooms, a tub and a little vanity room, it was a cat 11. On the Dream, it's a weird shaped room, with no chair or couch. It's a cat 8D. For us, it's all about the balcony. If they sold a balcony and a bathroom, we would be happy with that. We sleep outside on the loungers on our balcony a few times during the week anyway.

How much of a time difference is there between priority boarding and regular boarding?

It seems to me that getting to the port early usually ensures a pretty rapid boarding experience. I have only cruised 3 times, but the times when I got to the port early, I got on pretty quickly.

Most times 30 min. Big deal. Thats if you are there when the ship starts boarding. After that it don't matter.

I've sailed in one suite, and yes, we got the VIP boarding. We will be sailing in our first 9C in October. Should we get VIP boarding? No, I do not think so.

It seems the priority boarding "perk" is "given" to anyone who books a suite because... well... 1- you are paying a buttload for the room, and 2- seems a lot of ships have a hard time filling the suites, so the VIP boarding is a little extra incentive to staying in the suite.

And face it, those who book a 9C KNOW why they are booking a 9C and not a suite..... it's all about the balcony.

In all reality, I think Carnival messed up a good money maker for themselves when they started making the aft and aft wrap balconies into suites.......

And priority boarding..... yeah, we did it once, OMG it was LAME (granted it was in Mobile on the Holiday). Some lady from Carnival escorted us to some chairs while holding up a VIP card and saying "VIPs coming through" as if really saying "Look HERE, some IDIOTS actually paid for a SUITE on this TUB!- (and Yes, I loved the Holiday, but the suites SUCKED!) and had us sit and wait for NO LIE 30 minutes while they checked in (please no one take offense, please please) ONE handicapped passenger and their GROUP of 20 family members, NONE of which were VIPs. Since the Holiday still used room keys and not your S&S, they had to go GET the room keys for the dozen or so rooms from across the terminal..... and we HAD to wait as OUR room keys were in the SPECIAL VIP only room, which was also used to check in disabled guests and their MOB.......

Just my honest opinion and my one experience having VIP boarding..... regular boarding, arriving early, we were always on Lido having a Funship by noon, other than that once.....

Aft wraps, regardless of whether they are suites or cat 9's have the best perk already; Your own private deck for the duration of your cruise.

Ask anyone if they'd rather have VIP boarding or an aft wrap and I guarantee you those that have had both will state aft wrap every time. Those that haven't had an aft wrap may state an opinion, but just don't put much credence in their opinion. ;)

Aft wraps are the shazizzle!

Maybe an emoticon here or there would help to signify that you are not being serious ;). How else, in an internet forum, is one to know that you are kidding (if that is what you mean by not being serious) I truly am sorry if I did not infer correctly.

when will the boxing gloves come out?

kind of amazing a simple question causes all this yelling and screaming.

Who was yelling and screaming? I don't even have access to boxing gloves! :p;)

By the way, a recent post mentioned a criteria to the VIP boarding status that I had not considered...the fact that Carnival, at least at times, has trouble filling suites. Obviously not so with aft wraps.

I have platinum status with Loews hotels and certainly enjoy my percs based upon myself being a loyal customer, so i appreciate how you would feel if somebody would just come along & be granted the same 'goodies'.

Yet a 1st timer in a suite does qualify for early boarding perc. If the wraps cost less or even in same ballpark typically (which im not sure that they do based upon earlier post here), wherein is the harm for an additional 8 or so cabins to be granted the same accommodation?

I can imagine that if what you are suggesting did come to fruition, then the next category down would feel they are entitled to VIP status as they paid almost as much as you did and then the next category below that etc. etc.etc.

I think things are fine the way they are. We sail in suites at times, but are Platinum and I do have to say with more and more Platinum cruisers, the boarding process isn't as quick as it used to be. So even adding a few more cabins to the VIP boarding could cause further delays.

Priority boarding is the least important perk of Platinum status. We socialize in the boarding line. But we wait in very few lines in life. Seniors, just the wife and I, so we always use the express line when shopping. So if the VIP line grows as more book suites and become Platinum, we don't mind. Even ONE crashing the VIP line, we do mind. Just as I mind the person with 19 items in the 10 item line. [And they ALWAYS write a check too!:mad:]

Priority debark is totally meaningless to us. We wait until everyone is gone to deboard anyway.

The rest of the Platinum perks, the suites pax don't receive anyway.

If you get to the terminal early there is very little difference between priority boarding and everyone else. We were the first in line on our last cruise for regular boarding and they priority boarders were just up the plank from us. So literally 50ft or so away, no biggie.

This trip, according to the port thread, the only way to have a decent chance of renting a cabana @ HMCay is to be one of the earliest aboard & stake out a place in line @ excursions desk which i believe opens @ noon:confused: my sole reason for wanting to be aboard bright & early

This I totally understand since we are also hitting the excursion line on our cruise first thing so we can grab a cabana. We rented a suite this time so we'll be a few feet further ahead LOL (no that had nothing to do with why we rented a suite, just wanted to treat ourselves).

oh sure, that's what they all say LOL.;) good luck. Since this is the only time i've ever splurged on anything more lofty than an aft balcony, I'd probably have booked the suite on the destiny when it was less $ than the wrap, if it was just a tad larger.

im still vaguely puzzled as to why some CCL ships designate the cabins as suites & others don't, sq footage/layout? whatever, im just happy to be counting down the days until we leave at this point:D

Actually you have it 100% backwards. VIP boarding was a suite perk long before platinum was the twinkle in the eye of some Carnival marketing dweeb. It is actually the Platinum cruisers who are horning in on a suite perk.

As for the original question, Cat 9s aren't suites ... build a bridge.
