Snorkeling in Grand Cayman?

Headed to Grand Cayman. Does anyone know of some awesome snorkeling spots?

If you've never been snorkeling before, Eden Rock would be awesome and it is within walking range of the tender dock. There are dive shops near by to rent gear if you need it.

 

 

If you've been snorkeling lots of times, then Eden Rock might not be considered awesome, but rather just good.

How far in distance is Eden Rock? I have a bad knee and not able to walk very far. How doable is this? Or how much to get a taxi? Is it like 1/2 mile or what?

By the scale of the map, it's about 250 yds from the south terminal to Paradise Restaurant, the first entry point, and then about another 100 yds to Eden Rock Dive Center.

 

I don't know if you'd have any luck finding a taxi that would take you that short distance, especially on a cruise ship day when they're all looking for longer fares or doing repeated short hops in the other direction to Seven Mile Beach.

 

If the distance is too far for you to walk, you'd maybe have better luck finding a taxi to take you to Sunset House, which is further down the road past Eden Rock. That's enough of a distance that someone might be willing to take the fare... :D

This is a great map. Is there a website I can get into that has this map?

 

Going to the Cayman Islands in May and after snorkeling trip would like to

check out the sights.

We just returned from our snorkeling trip in Grand Cayman. We went to Eden Rock. It was great snorkeling. It was a nice sunny day and the water was very clear. We saw lots of colorful fish of all sizes. It was much better than snorkeling the barrier reef in Belize earlier in the week. We rented three sets of fins and two life vests for $27. We have our own masks and snorkels. It is not a long walk from the tender docks. It might be difficult for someone with mobility issues but there are places to stop and rest especially on the opposite side of the street where the shops are. Walk past Paradise Cafe to Eden Rock Dive Center. Paradise Cafe was very crowded the day we were there. There are lockers to rent, a couple of lounge chairs, an outdoor shower and a ladder into the water. After snorkeling at Eden Rock, we walked in the opposite direction to Burger King. After lunch, we were going to snorkel Cheeseburger Reef but decided to snorkel at the Wreck of the Cali by Divers Down on Church Street. This is also an easy snorkel to do from the beach. There is a raft about halfway to the wreck. The wreck is a freighter about 200 feet long. There were a lot of fish but snorkeling was better at Eden Rock. Several boat excursions stop at the Wreck of the Cali - you can do it on your own. It was a great snorkeling day and very cheap - $27. After we had time to shop downtown.
