  1. Glad to see Celebrity has added to their menus. We were on Silhouette end of Feb to March 9th. No prime rib or New York steak. The MDR dining was pretty underwhelming for me especially since I don't eat seafood, duck or lamb. My DH would've loved to be able to order prime rib or a NY steak. The desserts were always good. Enjoy your cruise. Thanks for posting.
  2. Last month we sailed on the Silhouette. We have Samsung Android phones. The app worked for us when we were at home. After we boarded the ship and changed to guest WIFI we weren't able to use some of the app features including chat. Our friends with iPhones didn't have any problems. A ship employee had to do extra steps to actually access the ship's WIFI. That info should be provided by Celebrity. We also found out that the info on the app is not always correct. MDR menu items were wrong several times.
  3. No. We asked the taxi driver and he said we didn't need to. We walked to the beach and purchased our chairs/umbrella for the day. You can't use the pool. It is for guests only. We did not go to the bar area. I went to the store and purchased drinks. We had a few ideas for the day depending on the weather. It was a beautiful day and we decided on a relaxing beach day. It was just what we needed.
  4. Enjoying your review. We were on the Silhouette Feb. 27 - March 9. I don't eat seafood. I was able to order a lobster dinner and chicken dinner at the same time. My husband was happy to eat my lobster. Too bad they are controlling the ordering process. It does appear that there are some additional menu items currently that weren't available for our cruise. It looks like you're enjoying beautiful weather. Have a wonderful vacation.
  5. It probably took around 10 minutes to walk back from the fort. We were in town around 3 hours. However we were shopping for jewelry which took longer. We went in three jewelry stores. We didn't stop to eat anywhere. We did make a stop at a pharmacy. We hadn't planned on going to the fort but we took a wrong turn through a park area. We left the ship after most people had so we weren't with a lot of people in the port area. We were walking up the street towards the church behind another couple. We happened to see Umbrella Street and stopped. They kept walking. There were several tourists in town. We ran into our friends in Central Plaza who were on a tour.
  6. We were the only ship in port so we didn't have any problem getting a taxi. Divi Little Bay is close to the port area. A taxi to Grand Case is approximately $35 one way. Decide what you want to do/see and then determine if you want a private taxi or go with a group tour. Several suggestions on CC for either.
  7. We were on Celebrity Silhouette and docked at Taino Bay on March 1st. We had scheduled the Snorkeling in Sousa Bay excursion through the ship. It was canceled too late the evening before for us to rebook anything else. Luckily we had planned on exploring Puerto Plata on our own after the excursion, so we decided to do that instead of trying to find something at the last minute outside the port area. There is a shuttle to take you from the ship to the Taino port area. There is a small booth to exchange currency. We paid for our purchases with US $ in Puerto Plata and didn't have any problems. There are several stores and restaurants. Also a large resort pool area, small beach area (no ocean access) and a lazy river. It is very nice. We walked outside the port area. Follow the signs to the exit. There will be men in bright yellow shirts with government ID trying to guide you for a fee. We told them No and they did not keep trying. It took about 7 minutes to walk to town. We walked toward the San Felipe Apostal Cathedral stopping at Umbrella Street on the way. We stopped at the Plaza Independencia and took some photos. My DH sat on a bench while I walked around the area and shopped in some of the stores. Next we walked down Beller Street to the Pink Alley for photos. We continued walking and shopping around the area. My DH purchased a Larimar ring and I bought a Larimar/pink conch shell necklace. We went inside the church. We took a different route on the way back to the ship. We walked along the Malecon along the ocean. We took photos of small fishing boats, palm trees and a pier. We hadn't planned on it but in our wandering we ended up at the San Felipe Fortress. We didn't go inside. We did take a nice photo of our ship from the fort. When we got back to the port, we took the shuttle to the ship. We changed into our swimming suits and headed back out to the lazy river tube ride. It felt great. We were the only ones enjoying it. When we started researching Puerto Plata there wasn't very much information. We were disappointed that our snorkeling excursion was canceled but glad we had a Plan B. We had an enjoyable day. We felt it was an easy walk and felt safe. Our friends had a tour on the cable car to the top of the mountain to see the Christ the Redeemer statue, into town and the fort. They enjoyed their tour also.
  8. We were in Antigua on March 4th. We booked the Catamaran Sail and Snorkel Celebrity Silhouette excursion. The tour operator was Wadadli Cats. We walked from the ship to where the cat was docked. The tour was from 9 to noon. The crew was very good. They were dancing, singing and interacting with the passengers. The captain pointed out sites as we sailed. We sailed past Blue Waters Bay and then stopped to snorkel. The waves were very big. There weren't many fish. The fish we saw were very small. After everyone boarded again they served small sandwiches and drinks. We stopped at Deep Bay Beach. It was a beautiful beach. There were a few vendors on the beach. We probably stayed about 30 minutes. The boat ride back to the ship was nice. It was good except for the snorkeling. There were not enough seats for everyone so some people had to sit on the nets on the front bow of the cat. I can't remember if it was this tour or another snorkeling tour that we purchased through the ship that said no one over 65 could book the tour. Several people were over 65. Wadadli crew did a great job!
  9. We decided to rent a car and DIY. The taxis were very expensive. We rented a Dodge Durango from Budget car rental. We had 6 people. The vehicle was $120 for the day including gas. We had the vehicle from 8:30 until 3 pm. Driving is on the left side of the road. We drove to Christiansted first to avoid the crowds. We drove along the Queen Mary Highway. We were able to park at Fort Christiansted. We toured the fort and many of the other historical buildings in town and walked along the boardwalk (a lot of tarpon in the water). Next we drove along the East End Road passing many resorts and the Array telescope. We stopped at Point Udall . We had a good view of Buck Island and Jack's and Isaac's Bay. We were short on time so we headed towards Cane Bay. We wanted to go snorkeling but decided we didn't have enough time. Hopefully there will be another chance. It is a nice beach with shade trees. It is popular for diving and snorkeling. We drove back to the ship in Frederiksted along Mahogany Road which was very tropical and full of potholes. We were glad we had an SUV. We really liked exploring St. Croix and hope to return. Budget car rental was great to work with.
  10. We were in St. Maarten on March 6th. We have toured St. Maarten before. We wanted to just relax at the beach. We went by taxi to Divi Beach Resort. The taxi was $6 per person plus tip. We rented 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella for $15. The beach was great. The ocean was calm. It is a nice sheltered bay. My DH snorkled over by the rock cliffs. He saw a few fish. There was a small store where we bought some drinks. Nice bathrooms also available. They have a taxi stand on property. Taxi again $6 per person plus tip. It was approximately a 10 minute ride back to the ship. It was not crowded and a nice relaxing day at the beach. Highly recommend.
  11. We were on the Silhouette earlier this month in an inside room on Deck 10. It was larger than insides on other cruise lines. The bed was comfortable. We only had a chair not a sofa. The bathroom was a good size. We felt the storage was lacking.
  12. Who knows. Maybe they were available. Several times on our cruise we received wrong information. Shore excursions employees, guest relations, the app, etc. I guess I should've asked at the bar???
  13. I went to Guest Relations and they said it was no longer available.
  14. If you fill it from the bathroom sink I think it tastes better if you then overnight it in the fridge.
  15. Boccee is not available anymore on the Silhouette. There were two ping pong tables and a foosball table on the ship.
  16. I asked our waiter. He said it wasn't on the menu. I asked to see the menu to see what might be on the menu to replace it. It was not listed or anything similar to replace it. We were not sailing with children. Our waiter was very good. I'm guessing he would've said he could order it for me if it was available.
  17. Just off the Silhouette 10 day. It is not on the kid's menu in the MDR.
  18. We just returned home from a 10 day cruise on the Silhouette. Our stateroom attendant was very happy and friendly but extremely overwhelmed with the 16 staterooms he was in charge of. Items were missing and stateroom was not cleaned as well as it should've been when we boarded. We decided we only needed evening service. He was more than happy to assist us if we needed anything at other times. We were more than happy to provide him with an extra tip at the end of our trip. We feel Celebrity needs to hire more people to service the staterooms. One person for 16 rooms seems difficult to us. We always saw one attendant always in the hall cleaning night and day. I hope he received extra tips from the people whose rooms he serviced. We remember the days when we had 2 people cleaning our room twice a day with a lot fewer staterooms to take care of. If Celebrity can't service their booked staterooms with appropriate service because of lack of employees they shouldn't sail at full capacity. It makes us feel bad that the employee might not receive extra tips for service when they actually are trying their very best when given more than they can actually accomplish. We noticed similar problems with our main dining service. They were great but had at least 6 tables. Our assistant waiter was late several days because he was also working in the evening at the Ocean View buffet. In our opinion not the employees fault but Celebrity because of lack of staff. Again we tipped extra to them because they were great and doing the best they could under the circumstances.
  19. We just returned from our sailing on the Silhouette Feb 27 thru March 9. We didn't have prime rib on the menu but I noticed on my app yesterday it mentioned prime rib for the next 4 day sailing. Do not believe the app. On the last sea day the app stated grilled New York steak for lunch in the main dining room. Walked past the posted menu outside the dining room and it was changed to Lamb Shank. Lobster was served on the chic night. Decent size. I don't eat seafood but I ordered the lobster. My husband ate my lobster and I ordered an additional chicken entree. No problem. He said the lobster was good. On the timeless menu on the app for the next sailing it is listed as New York steak. I think it was listed as grilled steak. Not sure if they are still using the same cut and renaming it on the menu. They have renamed Pork and Beans to Pork Loin (same dish). There was a lot of inexpensive types of meat served. Overall the food was good. Definitely different than we have had in the past. Ocean View buffet in the evening is as portrayed. Very few choices. There are different ways they could save money. The evening buffet shouldn't be one of them. Their employees are stretched thin. Our assistant waiter in the main dining room was sometimes late because he was helping in the buffet. They need to hire more staff. I'm glad that I had a heads up by reading CC about the cutbacks. Otherwise it would've been a shocking discovery. Overall we had a great cruise.
  20. Thanks for the positive review. We board the Silhouette this morning. Looking forward to warm weather and not shoveling snow.
  21. Thanks for the info. We board the Silhouette in about a week. It will be interesting to experience the changes in dining for ourselves.
  22. Thank you for posting your review. We will be on Silhouette for 10 days the end of February. It will be our first cruise back since Covid. I am hoping things are better with the dining choices than I'm imagining. We were traveling the maritime Islands in Canada last fall. The hotel staffs were wonderful. They were so happy to be open again with customers. I was hoping the cruise lines would be similar in their approach. Trying to get/keep customers instead of making cuts everywhere while charging more. I do understand there are post Covid problems everywhere but sometimes it seems like an easy excuse to raise prices and decrease service. I'm glad we have 6 ports to visit. Maybe we'll have to plan some dining off the ship especially for my husband who loves seafood and a good steak. I'm still looking forward to the cruise but with lower expectations.
  23. Thank you for posting. We are cruising on the Silhouette next month.
