Any ship - balcony stateroom configuration

I have been on many cruises, and it seems that each time the bed is on the aft side (balcony stateroom) facing forward. Is this standard or do some beds face the opposite direction? I seem to be wanting it to be the other way for a change and wondered if there was any plan to it all? We have always had a port side room - would starboard be the same configuration? Thanks!

In the last 3 years we have taken 3 cruises, all verandah staterooms. 1st on the Oosterdam (VF Handicapped Suite Stateroom) the head of the bed faced forward, we were midship hump, deck 5. 2nd on Westerdam, midship (SA category) verandah suite stateroom headboard faced aft. Last was also Westerdam a (VA category) verandah stateroom nearly aft headboard faced forward. The stateroom just aft of us also had theirs facing aft, but the stateroom just forward of ors had theirs facing forward.

I think as JTL says, they alternate.

By the way all 3 of our cruises we were on the Port side of the ships.

Not totally true, the aft corner suites on the Vista class ships face directly port or starboard depending on which corner of the ship you're on.;)

The OP specifically asked about the Port ad Starboard Staterooms I believe. Quote: "We have always had a port side room - would starboard be the same configuration? Thanks!" Unquote.
