coupon books not worth it

Yes, you need to take a "partner" with you to bet.

You put $5 cash plus coupon on red which is a $10 bet. You do the same on black, but only $5 "real money" and coupon which equates to a $10 bet. One will win and you get $10 cash "winnings." The other will lose, you lose $5 real money and the coupon. Net profit=$5.

Don't feel bad, it was several cruises before I figured it out.

Why don't you just place the money on the color that comes up and then you win $20, which is much better than winning only $5.

SSSSSSSH, Royal reads these forums! If you want to be sure you win, put a buck on 0 or 00. You only win $4 rather than $5 but it is better than nothing and if it does hit, you win more than $5!

The table minimum is usually $5 so you can't put a buck on 0 and 00

We have done this on 36 consecutive spins over the last several cruises. But we switch. One split on red/black...one split on odd/even...one split on low/high. So far no :D/:D:D.

But I think we have given all the winnings back to the "Texas Tea" slot machine.:(

Just got back for week on Oasis ( wonderful!! ) We are diamond members and the coupon books were not too great...so many of the usual coupons no longer available ( buy one photo, get another, johnny rockets cover charge buy one get one, drink, buy one get one, ) Coupon book very disappointing...seveal casino match plays, free slot play but otherwise...no big deal...guess this is where they are "cutting back"

Only coupon we did use was the 10.00 internet which is equivilent to 18 minutes ( .55 cents/minute)

you can put $1 on "inside" bets like numbers and corners and 0 and 00 are considered "inside." The $5 minimum is on outside bets like the sections, red/black/rows.

I never did figure out the "coupon" for blackjack that came in the daily planner because it said $5 but the minimum bet there was $6.

I don't know how these casino games play since we don't normally do anything in the casino except to walk through it to get to some place else.

We do have two coupon books.

Heck.... put em on Ebay like others have done and if they sell, THEN they will have had value to you perhaps !

No, roulette is played with $1 chips (unless you opt to play with $5's). If there is a table minimum of say, $10, it is rarely if ever enforced on cruise ships. I see people play a total of $2-3 per spin all the time. Besides, in the scenario that was described, the bettor would be betting $5 plus match play coupon on red, $5 plus match play coupon on black, and $1 on 0-00, for a total bet of $11 in cash.

You're exchanging a 47.36% (18/38) chance of winning $15 - net expectation $7.11 for a 94.73% (36/38) chance of winning $5 - net expectation $4.74. Not a sound betting strategy.

Just part of the "cut backs" that have been enacted.

Some folks here are being pretty hard on the OP. In fact, what the OP says is true. The coupon books used to be much better, at least for the things we used to do with the coupons. Yes, you can still do a few things with the coupons, but for Hubby's and my preferences, the coupons were better before.

Am I thankful we get anything at all and get the coupon book for free? Yes I am. The book is a nice gesture. It has been better though. Just for one example, the Johnny Rockets coupon. Now that it is good just for milk shakes, we no longer go to Johnny Rockets because neither of us drinks milk shakes.

I don't know if any other cruise line offers coupon books, so I am grateful to have a few coupons we use each cruise, but like the OP, I do believe the coupons had more of what we found useful in the past.

The OP is not talking about the C&A couipon book. The topic is a coupon book given by the TA as a perk.

How can something that costs nothing be considered "Not worth it" ?

It's just sitting there on the table when you get to your room. For free.

So... it's not worth what? The effort it takes to drop them into the trash?

What else do you have invested that you are not getting value from?

If folks keep complaining about the coupon book it will go the way of our C & A gifts-gone completely!

Personally I use several of the coupons in there so please RCI-keep the booklets coming. Some of us appreciate them!

While I agree that the old books had better coupons, I still find some value in the new books:

-We always buy fridge magnets of the ship and rum cake for the kids, so use the gift shop coupon My passport booklet has a 10% off coupon on RCCL logo gear from the gift shop. Do they accept 10% off all purchases?

-We drink a lot of wine, so use the buy 1 bottle, get a discount on the 2nd My passport booklet does not have this coupon :(.

-About half the time we get a massage, so use the 20% spa coupon My passport booklet offers 10% the spa only if I preregister.

-Usually eat at Johnny Rockets 2-3x, and enjoy milkshakes at least 1x, so use the b1g1f coupon for those My passport booklet does not have this coupon :(

-I always use the $5 matchplay coupons at the roulette table My passport booklet does have this coupon :)

-We always use the spin to win coupons too and won a couple keychains for the kids that way on the last cruise My passport booklet does not have this coupon :(

So we always manage to save a few dollars on things we would have spent money on anyway. :)

Hi Waterbug,

I am looking at a coupon booklet that I received yesterday from my TA. My coupon booklet is very different than yours. I don't have several of the coupons you mention (see above).

Could there possibly be more than one versions of a passport booklet??? I'd love to know a way to get ahold of a buy one get one 1/2 off wine coupon!

Cheryl :)

I think you are speaking about two different "coupon books".

You have one given to you as a promo from your TA.

When on board, C & A members have an RCI coupon book awating for them in cabin. Different books for gold, platinum, diamond etc. members.

Well said dixieva!

Folks compalined and complained about the free gifts we used to receive and look at the result. Amazing that some people will complain about something that costs them nothing.

Spout statistics all you want but all I know is that all but one time I've walked away with a $5 profit. Two coupons in the book x two people equals $20 in my pocket. The trick is to walk away which I do happily--right over to the penny slots which has even worse odds but keeps me busy for awhile (lol).

I didn't complain about the C & A gifts-even when I had a collection of 14 hats:D! Free is free and is always better than nothing. It's a gesture on the part of the cruise line so let's just accept the freebies gracefully! You can always give away the stuff you don't want.
