Driving on Santorini dangerous?

Have read that the locals drive pretty fast and the roads are windy and dangerous. Planned on renting a car....is that wise?

New Hampshire -- if you are ok driving in Vermont (all thoses winding gravel roads) I'm thinking Santorini will be no problem. Enjoy!

We hire a car for our holidays in Santorini, and have not noticed anything unusual about the driving on the island. Our young friends hire a quad bike for 2, and although there are warnings that sometimes young locals "buzz" them, they've had no trouble, and have ridden all over the island several times.

No problem at all to rent a car and drive wherever you want. We went to Oia first thing and spent the morning there, then drove south to Red Beach and finally another beach to the east (can't remember the name now) where there were a lot of restaurants lining the beach and we had some great Greek food.
