beachfollower Posted April 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Have read that the locals drive pretty fast and the roads are windy and dangerous. Planned on renting a car....is that wise?
Rare Hlitner Posted April 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Oh my goodness. Driving on Santorini is quite easy unless you are used to living in Wyoming where you never see another car. Hank

CintiPam Posted April 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2010 Very easy to drive in Santorini (have done it twice on both our port days in the past two years). Very little traffic (except for a few minutes in Fira itself), and free and easy parking.

New Hampshire -- if you are ok driving in Vermont (all thoses winding gravel roads) I'm thinking Santorini will be no problem. Enjoy!
beachfollower Posted April 13, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted April 13, 2010 Thank you everyone for your input. I am probably in worse danger driving to Boston for the departure flight!
anniversay/grad trip Posted April 13, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2010 we rented a car in Santorini last august (literally dozens to chose from in Fira) and drove around the entire island. It is only one road to Oia very very easy and a beautiful drive....cannot recommend it more....
jocap Posted April 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2010 We hire a car for our holidays in Santorini, and have not noticed anything unusual about the driving on the island. Our young friends hire a quad bike for 2, and although there are warnings that sometimes young locals "buzz" them, they've had no trouble, and have ridden all over the island several times. Jo. cruiser620 Posted April 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 17, 2010 No problem at all to rent a car and drive wherever you want. We went to Oia first thing and spent the morning there, then drove south to Red Beach and finally another beach to the east (can't remember the name now) where there were a lot of restaurants lining the beach and we had some great Greek food.
