Who or what is "the Half"?

At first I was wondering about that as well.

The original thread is called:

"How the other half cruises" - the name of this thread is missing the "other" from its title

I suppose to folks on the RCCL forum, we'rethe "other half". In which case on this forum, we're the half, and the other folks are the other half. ;)

Reminds me of a column in yesterday's Palm Beach Post in which the author (satirical writer Frank Cerabino) was discussing the desires of the exclusive folks who live on Palm Beach about a new supermarket. One of the things they asked specifically was a special entrance for valet parking. The article expanded on that, saying that shoppers would be greeted by name, handed a glass of champagne, and driven around the store by personal shoppers who would actually do the physical effort of reaching the shelves and loading the cart. I suppose they are really the "half", and we are the other half!

How Funny! Hawaii must really be the other half, I don't think there is any grocery store that offer free champagne and valet parking. We do get free samples at Costco though.

For all you dedicated cruisers - there are many cruisers who have never cruised a more upscale cruise line. The mass market cruises are a different product then the cruise experience offered by the ultra-premium and premium cruise lines. I just wanted to do a personal reflection on what each type of cruise offers.

We cruise for several different reasons (the ports, the ship and travelling with friends). There are options that some of you might consider - maybe a family reunion cruise with lots of kids - where Seabourn and Oceania do not offer the kid friendly programs. And the prices will be more affordable - a consideration for most vacationers.

Skandls, I thought it was an interesting thread. I have cruised RCCL, Princess, Disney, Celebrity as well as Silversea and Regent. I am booked for my first cruise on Oceania this July and in November my first on Azamara. I have NEVER had a bad cruise. The experience is different from cruiseline to cruiseline and from ship to ship as well as obviously itinerary to itinerary so I found it interesting to see the comparisons you have made. Thanks for the effort.

I would have assumed "the other half" doesn't go to grocery stores :D.

other "1/2" are you talking about??? People???? Cruise lines????? LuAnn

The Other Half - can be those cruisers who only cruise the 'premium' cruiselines and the other half are those who choose to cruise the mass market cruiselines. There is a big difference in the on board experience between them. The premiums offer a much more traditional cruising experience. The new megaships are really destinations themselves.

It was just a title for my thread.

While California has been told forever that we are the left coast and east coast is really the right coast, I must disagree..we are certainly the RIGHT coast for sure....as we have had that supermarket/valet parking etc. forever here..it is called Gelson's..and in Century City..you can also get your car washed ...or you can just stay home, open champagne and shop online from most of our markets and have it delivered..

toally digressing from the half thread I think..but we are the other half it seems..lol
