My review of QM2 in Princess Grill

This is our first time in PG and our second time on QM2. I did get lots of advice on here before we embarked. The service we recieved from all the staff was first class.

Embarkation went like a breeze, arrived at the terminal 11.50, on board by 12.10 the lady who processed our information was very friendly. This was our first impression of the service we would receive, it just got better and better as the trip progressed.

The princess grill cabin had the wow factor, loved the walkin wardrobe. I made sure I had that and my husband had the other wardrobes. I loved having the bath, although small, I prefer a bath to a shower. Having the extra space was very nice. Also loved the glass balcony, we were in an in hull for our TA last year. It was nice to see the sea whilst sat on the sofa.

The food was excellent, the service attentive. The staff seemed to have more time and not rushing around as much as the staff in Brittania have to do. This is because of the time allocation in PG, when we arrived there was always a member of staff to escort us to our table. Of course people are arriving at different times making our area of tables which were never full at the same time. Must say the food on our TA was also very good, I think what stands out in PG is the extra choice, you have the daily menu and then the al a carte to choose from. I also liked that some meals were cooked at your table. Was nice to see our food being preparded in front of us.

This is our first experience of ports of call, this ensured that we had more sail away parties to attend. I just loved being on the deck as she starts to move. The sailaway at Rotterdam was a sight to see. We had a choir singing for 1 hour before sailaway and then the reception at the port was amazing, everybody were on their balconies, there is a lot of tower blockes right next to the port, people were waving flags. I felt like royalty, there I was dressed for formal evening waving to all the people from my balcony. Luckily our balcony was facing the port so could enjoy the scene from there. It was a very wet evening but that did not put off the singers at all. Fabulous.

Enjoyed every thing that we did during the evening, Captains cocktail party, Queens Room, just watched the dancing. Even went into G32 and had a dance, had so much fun.

The Gardens of Cherbourg with Cunard was the best of the two excursions we booked. The Chateau de Nacqueville was amazing, infact words cannot describe the view from every aspect of the guided tour by the lady of the house, we were informed of all the history of the Chateau, which I just loved.

The QM2 was just how I remembered her, fantastic. We also met up with Jimsgirl, is she a lovely lady and I was very pleased that we made the effort to get together. I must tell you what happened when we bumped into Lynn in Sir Samuels, we were having a coffee when a large group of people sat at the next table to us.

Anyway one of the ladies turned round and said to Lynn that she reconised her voice and then introduced herself to us as Tina. They had met on a previous trip. Then an other guest arrived and it was the commodore. Lynn then told us Tina is the commodores wife, what a lovely lady. We did bump into her twice more after that and she made sure she spoke to us. This just made the trip special.

Also met up with Stephen who started our roll call in Grills Lounge for afternoon tea on Sunday, it was nice to put faces to names after chatting so long on the roll call.

We did go into the commodore club on the first night and met up with Lynn, we did not manage to meet up will the other roll call members.

This trip was very relaxing and enjoyable, the only problem was it was over far too soon. I'm so glad that I have the Med trip to look forward to in Brittania.

The disembarkation was really smooth also and we were on our way home by 8.45.

I'm so pleased you had a great time. The whole trip sounds lovely and thanks for writing a review.

How did your find using the balcony? A lot of posts describe it as unusable during transatlantic voyages. I understand from your review that your voyage wasn't a TA but I'm still interested in whether you used the balcony or not.

And did you have breakfast whilst sitting on your balcony? I ask because we plan to do so but I'm expecting that the winds will discourage us and we'll only do it the once.

Also was your table a six or four seat arrangement? How did you find that seating arrangement with 'anytime' dining?

Finally, any tips for first timer PG or QM2 guests?

We had the singers for an hour in Rotterdam on the QV last month and we joined in with them for The Wild Rover. Very enjoyable.

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Hi, we did step onto the balcony from time to time but did not sit out on it. This trip was to Zebbrugge, Rotterdam and Cherbourgh. The weather was okay but a bit cold out on deck. You could sit out if you had a coat on.

Our last trip was a TA in an inhull balcony again not sitting out weather, did step out there from time to time. With the inhull balcony you have to stand to see over the top.

We had a table for two which worked out well for us. Some other guests did have a table for six. The couples would arrive at different times, it did not seem to trouble anybody.

If we ever did grills again we would book a larger table because we do like to chat to people, although the couple on the next table to us would strike up a coversation with us.

We are back on in September for a 12 day med trip in the inhull balcony. I think the weather will be much better and hope to get a chance to sun our selves up on deck.

We did not have breakfast on the balcony, we did order room service one morning when we slept in and missed breakfast in princess grill.

Anything else I can help you with just ask.

Hi Catherine

Sorry I did not manage to meet up with you on board.

I had a great time as well and really enjoyed this short voyage.

The cocktail party was a nice surprise as I did not expect to get one at all on such a short trip.

What a very nice review and I am glad you enjoyed yourself!

it is good to know the staff at princess/P&O, who crew QM2, keep the Cunard traditions alive.

North East Girl, thank you for a lovely review. I'm booked on a P3 guarantee and am really looking forward to it.

Hi TITISSA, we had a P3 guarantee, we were up graded to P2 which was aft. This was a great area for the grills deck on 10. Also for accessing Princess Grill restaurant, which is aft deck 7. Conceirge one below on deck 9. Grills Lounge is on deck 7 oppisite the Queens Grill restaurant.

Where are you going? How many days will you be on board.

I think you will be very happy with Princess Grill, we loved it.

Hi, How did your mum enjoy her trip? Did you enjoy Hairspray? I did look for tickets but only the high balcony was available.

Yes it was nice to have the cocktail party.

It's a 5 day cruise from Brooklyn to Halifax and Boston. We've been to both places before but I booked this trip because I wanted to celebrated the forth of July in Boston and see the fireworks. So far I still don't know my cabin number is. I'm really excited about it.

I'd love to do the Halifax and Boston, maybe add a TA one way. Don't think I could do TA's both ways.

The excitment is looking to see if the cabin number has been allocated.

Enjoy your trip.

You got a captains cocktail party?

We did this same trip last December and we did feel a bit short changed.

There was not even a World Club party. We went with friends who were new to Cunard and I had said there would be a captains party. We also spent the whole 4 days with them putting up the Christmas decorations. They were very nice but you had to be careful not to trip over all of the cardboard boxes littered all over the ship. We would be dressed for formal night and the decorators were wearing shorts and flip flops.

Overall though a very relaxing longer -short trip.

How many formal nights were there on this short trip?

Thanks

Hi, we had 2 formal nights and 2 elegant casual nights and also the Captain's cocktail party. Although a short trip it was very enjoyable, just wished we lived a little closer to the port. We have a 6 hours drive, a 2 day trip would be too short for us. I think 5 is about right if you consider the price.

Hi pudd, sorry you did not get a cocktail party, it was very nice, not as busy as the Britannia cocktail party. I think this made it more enjoyable.

Anyway we should get one our med trip. Are you counting down the days yet?

Looking forward to finding out the excursions. Have you any plans on where you would like to visit?

Mum had a great time thanks for asking.

Hairspray was fantastic and got a well deserved standing ovation. It was a really good start to the holiday. :)

Hi Rob, How nice to have all the parties to attend. We did enjoy the ports of call.

I would love to do the ful 20 days, we can only have 2 weeks holidays at a time. Would have to do TA to NY, then Canada and fly back.

We have the med book for September, maybe 2011.
