New sticky post on the top of the board...

this is from it....

Interestingly, a Carnival cruise vacation specialist told Cruise Critic that the transatlantic cruise was initially opened up in error -- they intended to serve only a group booking, but briefly opened the channel to public traffic. As of now, the mistake has been "corrected," and the line has nothing in the system beyond October 16, when the ship sails into Barcelona to conclude a Mediterranean cruise.

I just saw that. Interesting.

That is very interesting....even though galveston is farther west...it does take 6 hours to get down the river from NOLA....anyone ever done the math on two ships leaving NOLA and Galveston arriving at a certain port?...That woould be interesting to see.:)

Randy...very simple...

Find the Capers from the Conquest when she sailed from NOLA

and compare to currentl Conquest (exact same Iten) from Galveston.

The simple reason for Triumph to go to Belize and Roatan was to offer some variety from Conquest and all the four and five day trips to Cozumel.

In fact...is it possible for a ship to leave from a Gulf port and NOT go to Cozumel (with the exceptionf of the eastern trips that CQ and Triumpn make.)

As for me and my house...it would be great to FINALLY take our "Planned" first cruise on the Conquest from NOLA. (Katrina sent us to Galveston and the worst embarkation ever....but understandably.)

IF the group booking was on purpose, this says to me that the cruise itself that people were booking was correct in the itinerary ...

... but the first prices might have been group prices, thats why when Traveler353 priced it today, he got much higher prices than some who priced it early yesterday got. Explains why the pricing went up.

Note, they dont deny the cruise itself exists, or say the information is incorrect ... only that it was released in error early for public booking.

He is normally on top of all this, but I know he is also on the inside with CCL and has to be quiet too.

I found this thread from an article on the front page of CC that said the release of the info was by accident, so now CCL has put it back into the box until ready to release officially.

Hey Firefly....good catch..that is the article I was referring to also.

The prices that I posted before I got off of the web site. Before lunch I called my PVP to confirm the information. While he was looking up prices for the TA for me it went poof. All mention of the TA disappeared from his screen. I just called and talked to him again. He confirmed what you posted kelz. He said that he had booked two parties for the TA and was going to have to call them and cancel the booking. He did not sound like a happy camper. Another in what is becoming a long line of Carnival miscommunications between the beards and the IT dept. So anyone thinking that they have a booking on the TA had better check back with their PVPs.

Please don't take this as a smart alec comment, because I don't mean for it to sound that way. :o But apparently, with you being way up north, you don't realize the number of people living in TX and surrounding states who cruise? Unlike at the northern and FL cruise ports, I would think that the majority of people who cruise out of Galveston actually drive to the port. (We do, from north Louisiana.) With no other options for cruising without flying to port (other than from New Orleans), it is no surprise that the Galveston ships book full easily and for higher prices. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Carnival to "give" this area a new ship.

I wouldn't take it the wrong way but I think you would be surprised by the number of people we have here in the north...I mean TX may be a BIGGER state but there are only about 5,000,000 more people in TX than in NY...I think if you look at population by people per square mile you wold see that 8 out of the top 10 states are in the northeast and we only have 4 cruise ports in that area...Texas is number 26 on that list...

I am not trying to argue with you but a lot of people down south think because the states are bigger they have more people and that is untrue...we have a TON of cruisers up here.

For example I can get a 7 day CCL cruise out of Galveston in August starting at $519...the 8 day out of NY for CCL in August starts at $899...and it is only 1 more day as we have further to go and you guys get a better itinerary down there.

I think FL definately has the advantage in this market...I mean they have 5 ports in one state...they have to keep the cruises cheap to compete with the others you can get in the area...I mean...you don't like the on in Ft. Lauderdale, drive 45 minutes and go out of Miami...if we don't like the one in NJ, we get to drive 4 hours to Baltimore...

Trust me, we northerners feel the same pain you guys have down in TX and LA feel, unfortunately we have too many bridges we can't get certain size ships up here...Oh well, as long as I can continue to get a good price to FL I will continue to cruise mostly out of there...they just have the better prices and the better itineraries...

Carnival Elation used to make it to Belize from Galveston.

Wow, so a group booking is getting priority on a one-time sailing? That stinks.

I am wondering if that is actually more of an invitation only booking than an actual group booking...you know...VIPS friends and families, cruisers with 50+ cruises, travel agents...something along those lines...

Carnival should honor any bookings that were made in error yesterday. It was their fault for having the info out there for the TAs or PVPs or whoever made the bookings. They should announce the news and then open bookings for all at the same time. More bad PR for Carnival if they just cancel all the folks that were so happy yesterday. I would be way upset if it were me. I'd just go with the Mariner of the Seas that is coming to Galveston at the same time.

I think if there were no oil spill things would be more evened out. Prices are obviously depressed right now ... so you take one date and make your conclusions that this isnt considered Carnival's strongest market price wise YEAR ROUND.

I got that information from someone at Carnival, wasnt something I decided based on one price I saw ...they consider pricing out of Galveston to be their strongest year round market... at the present time. You can always find a date to prove whatever you want to believe. I was quoting a Carnival person.

The only other time I saw prices this low was during the swine flu, now its the oil spill, which should hopefully not last forever. I guess since you live up north, you dont realize the uncertainty over gulf port cruises right now. Hopefully, by the time Magic gets to Texas, the oil spill is a known, instead of a unknown. People hate the unknown. ... but believe what you want regarding a year round market for departures.

Im hoping to do both

I too was wondering at the wording, if they would cancel those who booked yesterday. I hope not. That would sure burn me up if I booked and the prices were yanked out from under me.

PR doesn't seem to be the strong point of any cruise lines anymore. I am guessing they will cancel all bookings done in error...

.

Pricing in NYC is much higher if you look at just about any week long cruise and price it out per day, but they dont cruise out of NYC year round, so I can understand why the person you talked with at Carnival worded it that way.

You would think they would! However, I may be in the minority in this...but I actually prefer the Conquest's western itinerary over the Belize/Honduras one. :o I'll be taking my 6th Conquest western cruise next spring, and I'm not tired of that itinerary yet! LOL! I was a bit underwhelmed with Belize but did enjoy Honduras.

Belize is great if you sign up for a shore excurstion. Lots of cool things to do. If you don't go on a tour though, I don't really see there being much to do at all. I have been to Belize twice and it's one of my favorites, and I LOVE Roatan! Would love to see a new itinerary and not have to switch over to RCCL to do so.

I don't believe I ever said we had a stronger year round market, actually one of my arguments is that we don't have that many options for year round...my point was to make that some people think they have more of a demand because of population and I simply stated population isn't just about the size of the state...I do believe I said we were all in the same situation with the limited availability...

And I'm not BASING anything on a price, just one observation to say that is not ALWAYS the case...excuse me having a discussion, I guess I will wait to be invited into your next post...I mean since I don't seem to know everything in order to post my thought on the matter...

Why are you so upset. Cant someone post and argue the other side of things without you getting upset with my opinion??

Sure I love discussions, as you can tell, I thought was were having one.

Well, lets hope its not a case of getting what you wish for and then not wanting it... we will see how high the pricing is ... I hope I dont go into shock compared to the Conquest. We also had about the oldest Fantasy class ship too.

I cant wait to see the pricing ... I admit it.
