Official Travel Registration

Recommended Posts

I've been haunting the Cruise Critic boards for many years & typically learn something new at least once a month. Much of what I read has been said many times, but every once in a while I will pick up another "nugget of wisdom" from those who've gone before me. Having said that, I have never read anything about the following...

The US Government offers a FREE website to register one's out of county travel so that in the event of an emergency, (I have read of many of those who have lost original passports, pickpockets, stranded in a foreign country.), the Embassy will have a head start on re-issuing documents & getting you back home, or continuing your trip. Usually, the cruise lines will have the port contact information on their daily port information sheet that they hand out at the gangplank that will tell you where the nearest Embassy office is located, but it takes time to get everything sorted out bureaucratically and when cruising, the ship doesn't wait.

I hope the original site address doesn't automatically get deleted, the https colon backslash, backslash is needed & it wont work with w w w.)

There are many tips to make copies of your passport & leave the original on the ship; make sure you carry only a small amount of cash & one credit card per person, in different pockets. But, never read about this site before & stumbled upon it accidentally. I searched the boards & didn't find anything either. So, here's my contribution.
