Tickets issued in "middle" name

My friend is going on a cruise to Europe. Upon receiving his airline tickets he noticed that they were issued in his middle name not his first name. All his other documents (drivers license, passport) have his first, middle and last name on them. Are there any suggestions on how to clear this matter?? His TA told him that it would be difficult since he is flying Delta to Paris then Air France to Denmark. We can't seem to understand why the TA can't cancel the tickets and rebook the flights. Any ideas?? He is suppose to leave 8/9/10.

Your friend needs to get this corrected. The name on the passport & air tickets & cruise tickets must match. He could be denied boarding by the airline or cruise line if they do not.

He should also look for a new TA for the next trip

The TA can't just cancel the tickets and rebook the flights, if these weren't refundable tickets. Your friend would then have to pay the change fee (probably at least $250), and the difference in price from the original tickets to what they cost now (probably a lot more).

Who made the error? If it was the TA, they should be responsible for sorting this out, and you can see by the above why they don't want to.

Sounds like your friend goes by his middle name, and gave that info to the TA. I also go by my middle name, but ALWAYS book air and cruises with with my LEGAL FIRST AND LAST NAME AS THEY APPEAR ON MY PASSPORT! Also make sure credit cards are in LEGAL first and last name. Beware of using nick-names (Bubba, Junior, Buddy, etc.) and shortened names (Ricky, Barbie, Susie, Howie...etc.) It's 2010.

I had to go through a lot of fiddling to get my names and tickets to match after the recent laws went into affect. I had to work with each airline to use the names on my passport. All must match.

Really.

If the TA made the mistake, then the TA MUST fix it.

If the passenger made the mistake, then the passenger must pay to fix it all.

Your friend is the one who booked under his MIDDLE name! (Because that's the name he's always gone by). Your friend is the one who messed up - not the TA or the airline. Your friend will have to pay. Your friend should have been aware of the rules of booking air tickets using FIRST AND LAST LEGAL NAMES as they appear on your US-issued Photo IDs or Passport. Your friend is the one who messed up by booking under his/her MIDDLE name.

The person booking this cruise didn't book under his middle name. He told the TA his FULL name she booked it under middle name because that is what he is called!! I'm sure this mess can be cleared up eventually!!

Thanks to all who answered my post.

It is a TA error, and you should tell your friend to insist on it being corrected. If the TA continues to balk, have him remind her that this is what her errors and omissions policy covers, and that he would rather have her correct it now than get to the airport and find his plans disrupted and having to purchase full-fare last minute tickets, which naturally he would have to have her pay for.

Cherylandtk: (My mom called my Dad TK) I totally agree with you. When this first began the TAs response was show up at the airport 3 hrs. early and they will straighten it out. The sad part of this saga is my other friend suggested this TA to them. The man involved is a seasoned cruiser with more than 15 cruises. This particular TA is also mine needless to say I'm looking for another as my friends also are doing. I'm going to give all this info that I found from posting and I thank you and the others for their input.

My bet....a "cruise specialist" type of TA, who knows something about cruising but the air portion of the vacation is like Sanskrit. Definitely get this fixed in advance, not wait and pray on the day of travel.

In addition, this is one more reason for buying air on your own......;)

If this is a cruise air booking, the TA is going to have to go to the cruise line to get this changed. The reservation was made with the cruise line, NOT the airline.

There is NO canceling tickets and rebooking flights if it is cruise air. The cruise line has "owned" the tickets for probably a year and is merely passing them out to the passengers 60 days pre cruise. Imagine the tickets have been sitting on a shelf, which in essence they have.

Cruise air tickets are NOT booked per individual passenger. They are booked in large blocks and passed out to passengers as needed per routes and departure airports.

Get it fixed immediately. If this is cruise air, the tickets are the lowest possible fare class and airlines do not have to nor do they bend over backwards to fix any problems. In fact, it would not be unheard of to "bump" a cruise air passenger with a problem ticket in favor of a higher fare class passenger with no problems.

Good luck!!!

The tickets were issued by the airline not cruise air. This TA did the booking of the air. Now it is such a mess that hopefully it will all come to a happy end. I'll let you all know how it turns out and again thank you for your posts.
