Things I have learned about tipping

Ummm he said he tips both...and no mention of who worked harder.....Why are you yelling?

Exactly, my point was the blowhards on here continuously pat themselves on the back for what fantastic tippers they are, yet I haven't seen mention one of people tipping casino dealers and cocktail waitresses.

Of course based on Bruce's response, being in the casino is some kind of sin to the middle class because they wouldn't be caught dead in there!

I have followed this board for years but seldom post because I do not see the need

My DH and I have been on 7 cruises 5 of them with carnival.

I have been a waitress for 36 years (by choice) and I wish people would pre-tip me so I would know what kind of service they are expecting. I usually follow the threads about tipping and can not believe how cheap some people can be. A few people say oh yes I waitressed while going to school or they had a summer job well it has been my career and it is how I make a living.

We just celebrated a holiday and let me tell you I worked a lot harder for not any more money than I usually make in 8 hours I just had more of a mess to clean up.

I always leave my wait persons an extra tip while onboard but I think next trip I will leave even more.

I guess what I want to say is $10. per day per person is dog gone cheap and anyone who removes the automatic tips should have to walk in my shoes for 10 hours and then think about what tips are all about

go ahead flame away but leave the tips alone!!

Sorry you had a bad weekend; I agree that people need to tip you but it should be based on the service you provide not the service you are going to provide. I expect that you would provide me with good service and for that you would get 20%. If you went above what is expected, it would go up from there.

Well then why would you come and post a smarta@@ remark about your 401k to make it like you don't tip? You just like to start trouble? I don't play the tables but yes i tip the drink waitress. Why don't all you trouble makers start your own website so you can biotch amongst yourselves. Here is what you put in case you forgot----That's it. I'm emptying my 401k for those hard-working, poor, unfortunate souls. That would make anyone think you were saying i am not giving up my hard earned money to those waiters and waitresses or room stewards. Cause its sarcastic...don't you think?

Wow, I should start my own site? Maybe you should leave if that's as thick as your skin can get. What, I should just hurl insults and assume things about people like 80% of the posts on here?

The only chasm that cannot be crossed, sarcasm

I guess I don't understand this line...you want people to tell you how much they plan on tipping you ahead of you serving them so you know how good or bad you should serve them?

Cocktail waitresses get auto tip, just like the bartenders at the pool. As far as the dealers, I win..... they win

Well I didn't take his comment that way.........I saw it as a joke about how everyone states on here about how sorry they feel for the poor crew........

Now that is scary........tipping because they feel sorry:rolleyes: How many times do you read that on here:cool:

Um, this seems weird to me. I think almost everyone expects that their waitress will give accurate and friendly service -- because that is their job.

Don't get me wrong -- I do not remove tips on cruises -- and I tip very well when served in restaurants (usually at least 20% and usually closer to 25%). But I still think that there is something "odd" about an attitude that says "you should tip me first so I can decide how to treat you."

:(

I feel sorry only because of the cheap people that bring it on themselves....i have never had a bad server or room steward on a cruise yet. Not saying it can't happen though. This isn't a joke site its for information. Also i notice it always people with under 100 posts that like to complain and give wisea$$ answers....why is that?

Because being cool on a website isn't our lives work?

I just joined when I found the board after booking my upcoming cruise. I'll probably fall off after the cruise. Then you can get back to being all serious and junk.

Until I book again...

Sooo because I enjoy playing craps, I don't tip?

I'll have you know I tip the dealers in the casino as well as the wait staff. Do you tip dealers in the casino? How about all you other blow hards about the tipping? Do you tip the dealers? If not then you're the scum and scourage of the earth!!

Glad I tip the dealers. :D

Ummmm I said that because he was comparing the hard work the waitstaff do to the dealers. He's concerned about his precious dealers and the subject is about hard working waitstaff. Just cause my writing is big' date=' doesn't mean I'm yelling, I just like the look of it better!:D[/color']

No need to flame. I agree with you completely. Tips are very low.

DD used to wait tables so I absolutely 100% agree with you. Wait staff really do a lot of hard work and money is tight. I can remember DD telling us about the times she'd have a table full of people, 8 or even more and not get a dime. In restaurants I always make it a point to tip wait staff and tip extra, esp. if they do a great job!

So no flame on you at all, OP. thanks for posting!

Ummm your post that I quoted......the last two sentences was ALL IN CAPS! That is yelling:D

And again where was he comparing? He just asked if anyone of you guys tipped the dealers.......

Wow talk about assumptions.........

IMHO !!! If you think about the amt of people who divide a mere $10 a day... it is stupid to remove the autotips. You may not get great service in the buffet, but they are there working on your behalf nonetheless. Have you ever asked for something that wasn't there and been brought it. How about the guy/girl with the juices in the morning? The guys who come take your plates away so that you can go get another one? You don't have to tip those people extra if you don't want...but don't take away the small amt they do get. If you feel someone deserves extra ... then give that cause you want to. I don't tip the dealers because I don't gamble (too chicken ..LOL) but I surely do tip the barstaff everytime I get a drink ...which I do all day long....they get 15% everytime I order a drink, soda or alcoholic. I have been on three cruises and I have never met a steward or waiter who didn't deserve what they get and then some !!

So you chose that line of work, by guilting and namecalling(cheapos) you get whatever your service is. To expect a tip by whining and moaning and giving bad service is a joke and makes you look petty. Tipping is a individual choice. The rich according to Bruce dont tip as well., yet the rich pay 97% of the taxes in this country. Tip for bad service is a joke and many people on this site do it. Im sure you reward your kids for bad behavior also. Cheapos are the ones that dont tip the best buy checkers, walmart checkers, doctors, nurses, post carriers ceo's ect.... You brought me a plate of food and now you deserve some special reward, now thats cheap. Dont like bad tips quit, but quit whining.

After reading about tipping on this board I feel so bad for not tipping extra on my previous cruise. We had such awesome service from everyone, especially our MDR waitress. I had the urge to tip extra in cash but I wasn't sure if it was customary or even allowed. If I knew of a way to get it to them now I would. I can only hope we have the same kind of service we did on our last cruise. I sure wish I could get the same waitress. She felt like family by the time we got off.
