39august Posted February 8, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Is the "Old Town" area with the cathedral and opera house within walking distance of the cruise pier area? If not, about how long a taxi ride?
Bob7 Posted February 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2005 I read a good cruise review by Nancy Norris which said the Maz dock area is industrial and not a very safe place to walk around. The Cathedral, Mercado Market, and Machado are a cheap cab, about $2 or $3, perhaps a mile. Here's the link to a good map: http://www.mazatlan.com.mx/city/MazatlanOldTown.pdf The ships dock in the bottom left corner to the left of where it says Lazaro, where the little jetties stick out into the water, and you can see the cross marking the cathedral in the center of town. Here's a link to a map of the whole area with the cruise ship docks marked with a red Point of Interest dot: http://www.allaboutmazatlan.com/images/citymap.gif -Bob
BUCKGILBERT Posted February 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Old town is within walking distance if you know the streets. They do not run parallel so it can be tricky. You could get lost for hours. I would take a taxi for about $3usd. and no more:) It is sure worth seeing the downtown area. Buck
dakrewser Posted February 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Taxis were getting $5 (well, they were asking $10, but taking $5) a couple of weeks ago to go from the visitor's center at the dock to the Plaza Principale in front of the Cathedral. But from there it's only a short walk (maybe half mile) to the waterfront...
