Royal Caribbean or Celebrity?

We are trying to decide between two cruises, similar itineraries, Southern Caribbean. One is on the Celebrity Summit the other is RC Serenad of the Seas. We've been on Carnival, RC and Oceania before and enjoyed them all....Carnival the least. We are a group in our 50's and want to have a fun, but no one is dancing on the tables...anymore!

RCI tends to market Celebrity as a slightly more upscale company then RCI. Many will tell you that the food is somewhat better on Celebrity (they do budget more money per passenger day for cuisine) and we have found that the passengers tend to be a bit older, more sophisticated, and a lot more quiet. We personally do like the design of Celebrity ships much better then the mega-ships of RCI. It seems that RCI does everything possible to make their ships feel more like a land resort then a cruise ship and we prefer ships that feel like ships.

This is worrying that people perceive Celebrity as more upscale than RCI because Celebrity was on par with Carnival in my experience and I am paying a lot more for my upcoming RCI cruise and expect it to be much better than Celebrity.

Prices are always higher on the newest ships regardless of line. So your paying a premium to be "one of the first" passengers as well as for all of the bells and whistles they add to the newest ship.

RCL will have pool games and plenty of activites including rock climbing, ice rinks etc.. You can choose to do everything or nothing at all.

Celebrity has some entertainment but not the activities like on RCL. Do not be surprised that the streets tend to roll up at 10:30pm with the exception of the martini bar. Its a laid back make your own entertainment cruise. If thats what you like then its a perfect get away.
