robo1234 Posted July 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2010 I understand that those who are taking this cruise will have to pay $135 in Buenos Aries and $135 in Santiago {Reciprocity Fee]. Princess claims to know nothing about this.
6rugrats Posted July 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2010 And why should they? You are talking to customer service reps, many of whom have never been on a cruise, and are not immigration experts! It's your responsibility to take care of any such fees/visas/passport issues, etc. It will clearly say this in your contract. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1245866&highlight=

Princess claims to know nothing about this.Maybe Princess is right. Chile has always charged this fee for entrance by air but not for entrance by ship, Argentina was trying to figure out how to collect it. Anyway, this has to do with the Airlines (in Chile) not Princess. It is your responsibility to have all Visas and immigration information for all countries you visit.http://www.discoverbuenosaires.com/argentinas-proposed-tourist-entry-fee-postponed-indefinitely
Pam in CA Posted July 30, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2010 I understand that those who are taking this cruise will have to pay $135 in Buenos Aries and $135 in Santiago {Reciprocity Fee]. Princess claims to know nothing about this.It all depends on the direction you go on the cruise. I've been to Buenos Aires several times, both flying in and arriving by ship, and have never heard of the entrance fee. If you take a cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago, the entrance fee to Chile is included in the price of your cruise, so it's transparent. If you fly into Santiago to board the ship in Valparaiso, you will pay $135 -- in cash -- upon arrival at the airport. Princess has no control over this. The bottom line is that if you cruise from Santiago, you will pay the fee. If you cruise to Santiago, you don't have to worry about it. It's taken care of. lindy2 Posted July 30, 2010 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2010 We paid the fee on arrival at BA airport for our Antarctica cruise in Feb. 2010. I believe the fee started in Dec. 2009.
cruisefreaks Posted July 30, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2010 Yes it is a new immigration entry fee for Argentina. We had to pay it upon arrival at BUE airport. $135.00 and we were able to put it on a credit card. Donna

billie5 Posted July 30, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2010 You only pay the fee once every 10 years (according to the current rules), and you only pay it at the airport. So you will not have to pay a fee if your cruise is disembarking at BA, nor if you have previously paid it. If it disturbs you to pay the fee (set to be equal to what the U.S. is charging Argentinian tourists), you can fly into Montevideo and take the ferry to BA! caribill Posted July 30, 2010 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2010 You cannot expect a customer service representative at a cruiseline to give you correct immigration information, and they shouldn't have to. Per post #5, there is some information the rep should have access to.
